It’s finally happening, so here’s what we actually know about Tiger King season two

There will be five episodes, promising even more ‘stunning’ revelations

| UPDATED

The phase of lockdown last year where we were all hosting Zoom quizzes, watching Tiger King and talking about Joe Exotic seems like a million years ago. But it’s time to get ready to relive all those feelings as season two of Tiger King is finally upon us and will be on Netflix next month.

Netflix has just released a trailer for the new episodes, which look like they will contain just as many wild moments and revelations as the first time around. It promises new secrets and even more “stunning” revelations from the big cat owners who fascinated us and took over our lives last year.

So, what’s next in the saga? Here’s everything we know about season two of Tiger King on Netflix.

Season two of Tiger King will be five episodes and dives even deeper into the drama

Last season ended with Joe Exotic in jail for 22 years over animal abuse charges and the murder-for-hire plot towards Carole Baskin. Jeff and Lauren Lowe were set to take over his zoo, but Joe was still maintaining his innocence. We saw the ins and outs of the wild big cat world, and all the scandal (and crime) that goes along with it. But boy, it really isn’t over.

With Joe Exotic behind bars, Carole Baskin has closed in on ownership of his disreputable zoo for legal reasons. The new episodes see the saga continue its twisted course and with Tiger King 2 there are newfound revelations to emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners.

The new episodes will focus on the newfound fame of the previous cast members, as well as everything else that has gone down between them. There will be a further focus on the mysterious disappearance of Carole Baskin’s ex-husband, Don Lewis, including exploring everyone’s theories about what happened to him. Tiger King 2 will also look at Joe Exotic’s bid for freedom and the “free Joe Exotic” movement. “Everybody from the zoo is out there making money and I’m paying the price for every one of them people,” he says in the new trailer.

A Netflix synopsis reads: “The colourful saga of America’s most notorious big cat owners continues. Sudden fame and unwanted attention from the authorities turns up the heat and unearths some stunning revelations.”

The new season of the Netflix show will feature a lot of the old faces, but will also be a missing some key people

Jeff and Lauren Lowe were one of the first season one cast members who hinted that they were filming new episodes with Netflix, and they are pivotal to how the story has progressed, so they will both feature. Also returning includes Tim Stark, Allen Glover and James Garretson. Tim Stark is a fellow big cat owner and owner of the Wildlife in Need in Charlestown, Allen Glover is who Joe Exotic allegedly hired to kill Carole and you’ll remember James Garretson from his iconic season one entrance scene on a jet-ski.

Whilst, for obvious reasons, Joe Exotic can’t physically feature this time around – there will at least be some telephone recordings from him behind bars and some archival footage of him and his zoo previously. Carole Baskin has publicly said multiple times that she was disappointed with the Netflix portrayal of season one, so has outright refused to feature in any future Tiger King content. Her and her current husband, Howard, branded it “cruel” that the first season made it appear Carole may have been involved in her ex-husband’s disappearance – which she has of course always denied. So sadly, there will be no new feature from Carole herself.

Since the first season, cast member Erik Cowie has sadly passed away. He briefly appears in the trailer for season two, so there will be some archive footage of him in the new episodes.
