Erm, Nick Cannon just said he’d rather ‘raise a bully’ than have his son ‘be bullied’
Does it have to be one or the other?
Nick Cannon has never been shy about dropping a headline-grabbing quote, but his latest one really got people talking.
In a recent episode of his podcast, he admitted that he’d actually prefer to “raise a bully” than have his child be the one getting picked on.
Naturally, the internet went wild. So, what exactly did he mean, was he was being literal, and how does this fits into the way he parents his ever-growing family?
Nick co-parents with Selling Sunset’s Bre Tiesi who was also on the episode, so let’s get into the conversation they had about their three-year-old son.
Nick shared some controversial parenting ideas
So, here’s the moment that set everything off. Nick was talking about confidence, toughness, and teaching kids to hold their own when he dropped that eyebrow-raising line.
In a segment titled “Raising ‘soft kids’,” Bre said how her son “whooped her a** before she appeared on the show.” She added how Legendary Love is a “little fighter.” Nick said: “He likes to throw hands.”
He continued: “I tell him, do not hit girls, you can hit boys.” Bre chimed in: “See, that’s not really what you should say, either.”
Nick added: “The other little boys try to test him and, you gotta throw hands.”
“You gotta teach your child how to defend themselves, girls and boys,” he added.
He and Bre share one son

If you watch Selling Sunset, you already know Bre and Nick share son, Legendary, who arrived in 2022.
Their setup is very modern and very open, and Bre has said many times that co-parenting with Nick works for them. They don’t live under one roof, but they keep a routine, split responsibilities, and make decisions with Legendary’s well-being front and centre.
Because Bre is so visible on Netflix and Nick is, well, Nick, any parenting remark he makes tends to circle back to their little family.
Continuing their podcast chat about raising kids to defend themselves, Nick said he’d tell his kids if they got into a fight: “…punch the sh** out of that little motherfu****.”
He also said that after 11 years old, “you gotta know how to throw hands… first of all, for a man, there’s confidence in knowing how to fight… being a protector. I was a very, very small child. I had all of the taekwondo, and that helped me and gave me a sense of confidence. But, it didn’t happen until I got into a couple of fights, and I was like, ‘I can hit’.”
Nick continued: “I won’t tell nobody how to raise their kids, but at some poin,t the confidence in a man of knowing how to throw your hands it helps you in life…” before Bre added: “He just tuned three.”
Nick’s parenting world is genuinely huge. He shares twins, Moroccan and Monroe, with Mariah Carey, then has three children with Brittany Bell, Golden Sagon, Powerful Queen, and Rise Messiah.
With Abby De La Rosa he welcomed twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, followed by their daughter Beautiful Zeppelin.
His son Legendary Love is the one he shares with Selling Sunset’s Bre.
With LaNisha Cole, Nick has a daughter named Onyx Ice. And with Alyssa Scott he welcomed two children, Zen, who tragically passed away as an infant, and later their daughter Halo Marie.
