‘Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Shelley Davies as they come to terms with this tragic loss’
An 18-year-old from Cardiff has been charged with the murder of a woman after hitting her with a car.
South Wales Police confirmed the death of Shelley Davies on Saturday October 18th, and has since charged Kian Bateman her with murder.
The BBC reported that the 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of driving into three pedestrians outside the 4th Glamorgan Home Guard Club.
Shelley Davies, 38, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales after sustaining injuries in the crash, but later died as a result.
According to the Mirror, at approximately 12:30am on September 27th, emergency services were called to Heol Trelai, Caerau, in Cardiff, after reports that a vehicle “had struck several pedestrians”.
A major police presence arrived at the scene, cordoning off both Church Road and Caerau Lane, and images were taken by investigators after arriving at the area later that day.
South Wales Police confirmed Bateman’s charges, which included suspicion of grievous bodily harm and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remained on bail until his re-arrest on October 18th.
The 18-year-old from Heol Muston, Ely, appeared for a short hearing at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 20th, and was remanded in custody until a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court.
He has now been charged with the murder of Shelley, and grievous bodily harm in relation to a second victim, David Bratcher.
In a statement, Detective Inspector Mike Healy from South Wales Police said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Shelley Davies as they come to terms with this tragic loss. Shelley’s family continue to be updated and supported by officers.”
