Fresher’s flu: Health experts tells us how to beat it
We’ve been summoned to take three cheap, over-the-counter pills to avoid getting fresher’s flu
A health expert says that students across the country should take three inexpensive, over-the-counter pills to avoid fresher’s flu. Freshers’ flu is a virus common among new uni students in their first few weeks.
Close living arrangements can cause it, exposure to many new people and their germs (be careful who swap germs with), stress, late nights or poor diets during the transition to university life. Always try to look after yourself as best as you can, remember to eat and sleep, even if you do get eight hours of sleep from 5am–1 pm.
Symptoms include a sore throat, runny nose, headache, fatigue, and a fever, which can be prevented with good hygiene, a balanced diet, adequate sleep…. and reduced alcohol comsumption (maybe we can just pretend we didn’t hear that one).
In all seriousness, Stephen Dowd from Supplement Hub said:
“Freshers’ flu is extremely common… You don’t need to panic or spend a fortune to protect yourself. With a few simple, affordable habits, you can give your immune system the support it needs.”
- Whole foods: A few balanced basics go a long way.
- Sleep: Aim for at least eight hours, like I said before!! But try to balance late freshers’ nights with proper rest.
- Hydration:Refillable water bottles back in their prime- stay energised and focused!
The three cheap pills we have been advised to take are:
- A multivitamin: Simple and effective. Once a day!
- Vitamin D3: As we approach autumn and winter, the sun is not strong enough for us to make vitamin D. So vitamin D supplements are the key! 2000IU recommended per day.
- Zinc: Supports immunity short-term, but no need to use it for the long haul.
