Everyone is using this new dating app where you can’t chat until a first date they arrange

You have to meet your match in real life

Forget Hinge and Tinder, everyone is using a new dating app called Breeze, where you can’t chat until you meet in person on a date that’s organised by the app. As an engaged girlie in a long-term relationship who hasn’t dated for eight years, it sounds absolutely terrifying. But according to my friends, it’s the best thing ever – and it actually works.

Breeze launched in early 2020 in the Netherlands, then came to London in May 2024, so it’s technically not new. However, the app, which is available on iOS and Android, only just expanded to more cities across the UK in June 2025. A few months on, people are finally starting to hear about it.

Everyone is using this dating app called Breeze

Describing themselves as the “dating app for real dates,” Breeze takes online dating offline. When you match with someone on the app, you can’t chat, but the app will arrange your first date straight away.

They have a series of partner bars in London, New York and various other cities across the UK, Germany, France and the Netherlands, where you organise a meeting.

You choose the dates and times when you’re available and they organise the date. Then, you both meet there at the time and date planned, essentially going on a blind date, but you’ve seen their photo and profile.

According to one of my friends, everybody in the bar is on a Breeze date. So, it is a bit strange at first. Like some sort of weird group dating exercise. But you soon get used to it, and the bartenders are all looking out for you.

Um, is dating through Breeze actually safe?

Meeting up with someone you’ve literally never spoken to before sounds scary, but Breeze insists the whole process is “safe” and “worry-free”. They have a few features in place to make sure everything runs smoothly.

All daters are screened and verified, the date locations are all partner venues and ghosters immediately get their account frozen. Plus, you both have to pay for the date upfront to show your commitment.

If you’re scared of being stood up, don’t be. Both people have to check, check and double-check that they will be attending, so it’s very unlikely that you’ll be sitting there alone waiting for your date to arrive.
