The real reason Diddy has been allowed to wear his own clothes during New York trial

He’s been given special permissions so he doesn’t have to wear a prison-issued jumpsuit

Right now, Sean “Diddy” Combs is on trial in New York. During his trial, Diddy has been given permission to wear his own clothes. This is instead of wearing a prison jumpsuit, which you often see people in US court cases wearing.

55-year-old Diddy faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and has denied all allegations.

During previous court appearances, Diddy wore a beige, prison-issued jumpsuit. However, during his trial the judge has granted him special permission to wear his own clothes while taking the stand. According to E! News, Diddy is “permitted to receive non-prison clothing”.

He’s able to wear “business casual” clothing during his trial. But there are some limitations on what he can wear.

In an order obtained by the publication, it was specified he is not allowed to wear shoes with laces (as these could pose a health risk), and is restricted to “five button down shirts, up to five pairs of pants, up to five sweaters, up to five pairs of socks, and up to two pairs of shoes.”

The reason for this is that the court doesn’t want jurors to be swayed by what Diddy is seen wearing. The thought behind this is that seeing someone in a prison uniform could make them appear more guilty. This may therefore impact the right to a fair trial, and the jury’s decision.

The court case is into its second week now, and is currently taking place in New York. Witnesses called so far have included Diddy’s former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, his former assistant David James, and artist Dawn Richard. The trial continues. If found guilty, Diddy could face up to life in prison.
