Super strict social media rules the MAFS Australia cast still have to follow after the show

So many contestants have already broken the rules

You’d think the MAFS Australia cast would be delighted the show has finished airing in the UK, and they can move on from the mess. But it turns out that the MAFS Australia cast are still tied up by strict rules long after the show is off our screens. Here are the social media rules the MAFS Australia cast are supposed to stick to after the show (plus, who has already broken them).

The MAFS cast have to sick to two very specific rules

So, the MAFS Australia cast actually don’t have control of their own social media accounts while the show is on TV. The Channel Nine publicity team help them write captions and choose which images to post. This is the standard procedure now for many reality TV shows.

Contestants don’t have access to their own direct messages. At the moment, MAFS cast can post updates on their lives beyond the experiment, but the Channel Nine team have to approve everything. This week, the cast will regain control of their social media accounts. But the brides and grooms still have to stick to two rules.

The cast apparently aren’t allowed to say anything on social media that alludes to Channel Nine controlling their accounts during the show. An anonymous MAFS Australia contestant showed Yahoo a document from Channel Nine. It reads: “Since all content and captions published to your account during the season were selected and written by you, we advise you to avoid announcing your ‘return’ to social or mentioning the publishing process in order to maintain the authenticity between you and your followers.”

According to Yahoo, the MAFS cast are also discouraged from doing brand deals. The document says: “You can use your social media accounts for personal content publishing, noting this personal content needs to adhere to your exclusivity timings and provisions (non-commercial purposes only.”

Loads of MAFS Australia contestants have already broken these rules

Several MAFS contestants – Adrian, Billy, Clint, Dave, Eliot, Jacqui and Ryan – already bypassed these rules and started posting on second social media accounts during the show. They used these accounts for posting content that criticised MAFS Australia (or their other contestants). This made it extremely obvious that their original social media accounts were being monitored by Channel Nine.

Clint and Jacqui have already done plenty of brand deals, which the cast are supposedly discouraged from.

According to the Daily Mail Australia, Dave Hand and Veronica Cloherty also defied the rules of the show. They changed the passwords of their Instagrams to lock the MAFS publicity team out of their accounts.

I can’t wait to see what tea they all spill on social media next.
