Three people suffer injuries after attack in Headingley area
Armed police officers were spotted entering the Otley Run area earlier today
After reports of a man holding weapons, West Yorkshire Police officers entered the Headingley area.
The officers found three victims of the attack who are reportedly injured but not suffering life threatening consequences at this time, according to West Yorkshire Police’s statement to Leeds Live.
An eyewitness told Leeds Live that some girls asked to enter her workplace “because they’d seen someone with a crossbow”.
This was reportedly a few minutes before the eyewitness saw police and ambulances “rushing down the roads”. Otley Road was closed between Arndale and Woodies pub in Headingley and police cars were found to be blocking off the area.
Police were also spotted taking passengers off buses amid reports of the serious incident.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that a male suspect has now been located and detained.
The eyewitness, Bethany Connelly, stated: “It was really scary, because obviously, you don’t get this happening in Leeds. It’s not normal.
“You hear about this stuff in America, but not on your doorstep. It was really scary.
“We had to tell everyone at the restaurant what was happening, and we had to say ‘can you please stay indoors? We are going to lock the doors just in case’.
“We have got a back kitchen, and all of our chefs were told to come in and we stopped service for a bit. It was really quite scary.”
