Here’s which Taylor Swift era your University of Liverpool student accommodation would be

You’d have to be Fearless to live in Melville Grove

The anniversary of Taylor Swift’s visit to arguably the best city in the world, Liverpool, is fast approaching. Thousands of Swifties are mourning their once in a lifetime trip to Anfield for the Eras Tour, and there’s no better way to commemorate her run of iconic shows than giving you a chance to romanticise your student lifestyle.

We literally have our own Taylor Swift appreciation society, and if that doesn’t tell you that this city loves her, then we don’t know what will. So, have you ever wondered which Taylor Swift era your accommodation would be, based purely on vibes?

Probably not, but here’s how you can place yourself as the main character of some of Taylor Swift’s best eras, depending on exactly where you lived as a silly little fresher at the University of Liverpool.

Private halls as Debut and Fearless

The often-forgotten residents of Student Roost, Kaplan, True Students, Agnes Jones and Unite Students are probably used to hearing “where?” when they tell someone where they live. They might be able to relate to Swifties who are tired of hearing “which album is that?” after answering that their favourite Taylor Swift album is Debut or Fearless. That is, until you explain Fearlessis the album with Love Story on.

We recommend listening to The Outside from Debut or Forever and Always from Fearless if you live in private UoL accommodation, just to ease the pain of always being forgotten about.

Tudor Close as Speak Now

Tudor Close is the home to Liverpool’s study abroad students, who have travelled from all across the globe. Residents of Tudor Close can listen to Enchanted from Speak Now while falling in love with the magical city of Liverpool, or Never Grow Up if they’re feeling homesick and missing their families.

It’s the accommodation that suits the vibe of Speak Now the best, because it was literally written about the transition from adolescence to adulthood. It really does hit the nail on the head when it comes to moving in to a brand new accommodation as a silly little fresher back in the day.

Vine Court as Red

Red is often underrated, but this combination of one of the best albums and accommodations is so dreamy. Vine Court’s red brick buildings are a perfect Instagram picture to pair with an autumnal track from Red playing in the background. You can literally recreate the line from All Too Well of “autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place”. It’s so aesthetically pleasing.

Vine Court residents could also accompany pictures from the previous night’s flat party with the music of 22 because let’s be real, it was the underrated party accommodation of first year.

Melville Grove as reputation

Poor, poor Melville Grove. It might be the most divisive accommodation on campus, which often gets a bad reputation (see what I did there) but isn’t really that bad. Students in Melville Grove can listen to I Did Something Bad to comfort themselves after getting slated for their accommodation choice, or New Year’s Day when tidying up the afters that always inevitably happen at Melville Grove, despite everyone hating on it during the day.

Crown Place as 1989

Obviously, we have to pair the most well-known accommodation and album together. When googling University of Liverpool or Taylor Swift, it is most likely that pictures of Crown Place and the 1989 album will be the first to pop up. Such an iconic duo.

Located closest to the big city – Liverpool city centre, not New York – Crown Place is the perfect spot to host pres, while blasting Blank Space or Style to get you in the clubbing mood.

Dover Court as Lover

Dover Court is the home to most of UoL’s postgraduate students or returning undergraduates. These students taking the next step in their education and settling into adulthood will most likely relate to Lover, a more mature album about a long-lasting relationship and the ups and downs of adult life.

The Lover album knows how to party and have fun on tracks like Paper Rings, but also offers some existential crisis anthems such as The Archer, that Dover Court students will definitely relate to, being that one step closer to adulthood than the rest of us.

Greenbank Village as folklore and evermore

Yes, I did save folklore for myself, as a former Greenbank resident, but there is also concrete logic behind this: Greenbank Village boasts fields of greenery to have a folklore or evermore inspired photoshoot in, and is situated next to Sefton Park if you need to reconnect with nature while listening to the lakes or ivy.

Also infamously known as the accommodation that hosts the most parties, Greenbank residents can appreciate Taylor Swift writing most of folklore and evermore in a drunken COVID-19 lockdown-haze. It’s the album that matches the accommodation the best as you can catch most of the students listening to cardigan or gold rush on the comedown from another wild party.

Philharmonic Court as Midnights

Pairing the popular Philharmonic Court with the fan-favourite album Midnights felt like an easy choice, as students living in the University of Liverpool’s most expensive and boujee accommodation have earned the right to listen to Bejeweled or Lavender Haze on the short walk from their glamorous halls of residence to the university’s campus.

It’s another album and accommodation that goes slightly under the radar, but still has that party-like edge to it as somehow everyone always ends up at a Philharmonic Court pres at some point in their stint as a fresher.

Living at home as The Tortured Poets Department

Students living at home often have a mysterious air about them, as they are seen less on nights out (unless they’ve found a halls of residence to crash in for the night), which fits perfectly with Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department. I recommend listening to I Can Do It With a Broken Heart to help survive the tortuous commute to university, or I Look in People’s Windows when visiting your campus friends’ accommodations. The jealousy is real sometimes.

Enjoy romanticising your former life as a silly fresh everyone x
