The debrief: London Wilder Fight Night round six!

Boxing, boozing, Clapham – what’s not to love?!

Last Sunday, London Wilder Fight Night was back again for round six, and members of The King’s Tab were glued to our seats ringside.

Walking into the Clapham Grand, the air was thick with the warm, familiar, almost comforting stench of tequila and sweat. All around, girls glamorously donned their finest black tie attire. Meanwhile, the boys did their best to stand out in the same tuxedo their mum was likely obliged to buy them for their sixth form prom.

With 14 fights scheduled on the line-up, and the crowd already drunk by 8pm (Monday’s early morning lectures clearly forgotten), the evening was destined to be as spectacularly nail-biting as ever.

The event was, once again, skilfully hosted by the beautiful Zoe Fasham. Zoe took to the ring back in round four to represent KCLWFC. This time, she was joined by Max Way. No stranger to the ring, Max hung up his gloves from round five in favour of hosting, after a triumphant win on behalf of KCL Tennis in December.

The first half of the evening kicked off with some classic rugby rivalry. UCL Men’s Rugby representative Dylan “The Gravedigger” Kid battled it out against GKT Rugby’s Sheheryar “The Shredder” Khan. The match resulted in an unfortunate loss for KCL.

The third pairing saw the first and only draw of the night. UAL Film’s Amber “Ginger Fury” Valentine, and KCLWFC’s Leslie “The Cobra” Cai truly met each other’s match, and the referee ultimately raised both of their hands at the end of the fight.

Overall, KCL Football had a hugely successful round six. The men’s teams took home a whopping three wins, from Finbar “McCool” Dorrity, Roberto “Stefano” Vieru, and Clayton Holmes.

Holmes admittedly won against fellow football player Bruno “The Gladiator” Pagano. With all these wins, though, it seems that football cardio is giving fighters the edge in the ring. From now on, the footie opponents could be the ones to watch.

The fighting was, of course, broken up by a sassy, sexy intermission performance from the KCL Lions that certainly made me wish my parents had forced me to dance as a child. The girls effortlessly revitalised the energy in the room ready for the second half, and looked good doing it.

The boxers came back strong after intermission, with a particularly bloody fight between UCL’s Manav “The Phantom” Chitkara and Royal Holloway Golf’s Jamie McNamara keeping the audience hooked.

Immediately after, KCLWRFC’s “Deadshot” Deniz Minetti took on KCL Netball’s Maissie “The Chan-pion” Chan. Despite Minetti’s powerful start, Chan lived up to her “Chan-pion” status, and came out on top to raucous applause from netball alumni in the crowd.

Omar “The Ginger Arab” Kaana and Hugo “The Machine” Xie provided the grand finale. Representing London Finance and Business Union, and the LSESU Chess society respectively, these boys had the pressure of bringing round six to a close. They delivered a great fight, but the pressure was too much for “The Machine”, and Kaana emerged victorious.

As always, the evening was hosted by Wilder Fight Night in aid of the OddBalls Foundation. Since 2015, the charity have been raising awareness for testicular cancer, and encouraging men everywhere to check themselves.

Aside from providing an evening of great entertainment, these fighters all raised money for OddBalls throughout their training. The fundraising total for round six is yet to be released, but with £6,486.79 raised in round five, the event will, yet again, make an important impact on the charity.

The final leaderboard before the event revealed that KCLWFC’s Amrita “The Defeater” D’Souza raised the most money. She collated an incredible £805 for the charity, putting her hundreds of pounds above others on the list.

Sadly, another Fight Night has now been and gone. It’s hard to know what to look forward to without a vodka Red Bull fuelled Sunday night on the horizon, spent watching your peers punch each other squarely in the face, and ultimately walking home barefoot because the heels became a bit too much to handle.

Still, if you missed out, Fight Night will be back and better than ever at the end of the year. Keep an eye on their Instagram for important announcements – who knows, maybe you’ll feel inspired to step into the ring yourself!

Meanwhile, you can relive the fun with some Tab content. Keep an eye on our TikTok this week (@thetabkcl) for interviews with audience members and fighters alike to sustain you until next time.
