Woman who died after being hit by van on the Strand confirmed to be King’s College student
The driver has been arrested for allegedly being over the drug driving limit
The woman who died after a van crashed into a group of people on the Strand has been identified as a King’s College London student.
She has been named by friends as Aliyah, and according to eyewitnesses, was sitting on a bench when she was hit.
King’s College London has also sent an email to students confirming the 21-year-old was a student at the university.
The Metropolitan Police told The King’s Tab that the driver of the van, a 26-year-old man, was arrested “at the scene on suspicion causing death by careless driving and driving with concentration of specified controlled drug above specified limit”.
Emergency services were called to the area quickly after the crash, with the police, ambulance and fire service being in attendance. However, despite best efforts by emergency service workers, the 21-year-old died at the scene.
An eyewitness who saw the incident said: “Emergency services tried a bit for CPR… It didn’t work. So they covered her over.”
It has also been confirmed by police that two others were injured, and one has life-threatening injuries. Furthermore, it has been reported that one of the injured is also a King’s College London student.
According to the Daily Mail, the van was said to have hit a flower bed before crashing into the victims. Images shared online also show damage to a bench and a nearby rubbish bin.
A number of floral tributes have been placed in memory of the student at the gates of St Mary le Strand church, where the van came to a halt. Amongst the flowers are bouquets of tulips and roses.

Josh continued by saying: “We all went over there and then obviously one of my mates, he went in there, grabbed some first aiders and came out, we tried to get people away and all that.”
