Um, what exactly is happening on February 26th and why are TikTok users freaking out?!

People are literally saying to stay at home

If you’ve been on TikTok this week, chances are you’ve probably seen everyone freaking out about one specific date – February 26th.

It’s the latest thing to go viral on the video app, after the tragic Anglerfish story and those awful “POV: You wake up” TikToks.

Everyone’s talking about this Wednesday like it’s super important but as always, no one’s explaining what it actually means.

So, what is happening on February 26th?! Well, the short answer is absolutely nothing, but there’s a bit more to it than that.

Somehow, Thursday has been turned into something called “Slime Your Homie Day” which is just as pointless as it sounds.

It has nothing to do with slime or gunk, in this instance slime is slang for betray, while homies is obviously slang for friends.

Put the two together and it’s a day to betray your friends or set them up in a sneaky and disloyal way. Essentially, to do them dirty.

It’s not clear how far people are actually willing to go with this, but people are freaking out that they are about to be seriously messed with.

Guys are literally telling other men to stay at home all day on Wednesday, lock the doors and not hang out with their homies to stay safe.

The whole TikTok trend appears to link to Drake’s track Slime You Out, which is about manipulating or taking advantage of someone for personal gain.

It seems to have been started by a TikTok user called @notfromadonis who posted a video of himself and a friend walking through a car park last week.

“On February 26th slime ya hb,” he wrote on the screen, and the video went mega-viral with more than 6.2 million views.

Others then started making videos about the made-up trend and it spread like wildfire, taking over TikTok and suddenly becoming this massive thing.

However, in reality, nothing’s happening on February 26th. It’s just one big stupid social media joke that has no point to it at all.
