Nothing to do? Here’s the ultimate weekend itinerary bound to please any Liverpool student

Yes, you can spend your weekend in the Lunko queue and no, we won’t judge you

Ah, the third week of second semester. Finally the evenings are getting lighter, but that student loan payment isn’t stretching as far as you thought, and the comforts of home are starting to call to you more than ever before.

Planning a wholesome weekend packed with activities to take your mind off the mountain of reading you’ve already got piling up is normally always the key to shifting those early semester blues. Whether you’ve got family and friends on their way to see you, or your in the mood for a solo trip around the city to explore a bit more, we’ve got you.

Next time you’re planning your perfect weekend itinerary in town, take note of some of these spots – and don’t worry, they won’t break your bank either.

Go for a wholesome brunch and coffee

Firstly, no student’s morning is complete without caffeine.

The humble coffee provides the energy needed to get through those late night deadlines. The first stop of the weekend will be to one of Liverpool’s many cafés – Hardware Coffee is a personal fave of so many students. You can grab some pastries and a coffee, or go all out with the French toast or a classic avocado sourdough. Rinsing that down with an iced matcha latte sounds like the perfect start to a Saturday morning.

Before moving on to the next stop don’t forget to snap a pic for the gram and make everyone jealous, naturally.

Take a wander around the World Museum

Once you are fuelled for the day, you can move on to the beautiful World Museum.

It’s located in the Cultural Quarter where Liverpool boasts its most stunning buildings. There’s something here for everyone, including an Ancient Egyptian Gallery, a planetarium, aquarium and the Natural History Centre.

Whilst you’re in the area, you can have a quick trip to the Liverpool Library. On the first floor, you’ll find the infamously beautiful Picton Reading Room – which might give you some much needed study inspiration.

Go and splash your student loan in the shops

When you’ve finished with your cultural excursion, take a walk into the city centre – your student loan will fly out of your pocket but hey, it would be rude not to.

If you’re into big name shops to find that trendy top you saw on TikTok then head to Liverpool ONE, but if you prefer vintage Pinterest worthy pieces then go no further than Bold Street.

Either way, you will be inundated with a variety of options that will fulfil your shopping addiction.

Have a walk down to the Royal Albert Dock

Liverpool is home to hundreds of restaurants that will fulfil any appetite, no matter your tastebuds. If you’re in the mood for  a delicious sit-down meal then head no further than the Royal Albert Docks. Whether you fancy tapas, steak, Italian or even a classic fish and chips, the Docks have it all.

Taking a wholesome stroll along the water is enough to keep you going during the next uni week. It’s also the perfect place to get those pre-club drinks if you’re feeling fancy.

Hit Concert Square and head out clubbing

This might not be for you if you’ve got parents coming over to visit, but one thing that Liverpool is known for is it’s the nightlife.

Make your way down to Concert Square where the bustling streets will make you want to boogie. A Liverpool speciality is a good old Irish bar – there’s nothing better than hearing singers serenade you as you guzzle down vodka cranberries.

Celtic Corner and Dirty O’Sheas will be perfect if this is your scene. However, if you prefer a bit more of a clubbing vibe, there are plenty of hotspots to dance to night away. BaaBar, Heebie Jeebies and Arts Club are all student favourites for their music and cheap drinks.

Reconnect with nature in Sefton Park

Once you have woken up and recovered from Saturday night’s hangover then it is time to touch some grass (literally). Head over to Sefton Park, one of Liverpool’s prettiest grounds and breathe in the fresh air.

It’s only 30 minutes away from the city centre, and perfect for an early morning jog or an afternoon stroll. You can also take a look in the Palm House, a Victorian glasshouse holding over 200 plants. Get yourself up and out, because you’ve got another day of adventures ahead.

Go window shopping on Lark Lane

It’s a right of passage to go to Lark Lane after a stomp around Sefton, right? At the end of the park is a beautiful street of independent stores, pubs and restaurants.

Lark lane is home to some of Liverpool’s cutest places, including pubs with boardgames, a doughnut shop and a vintage store located in the garage of an old house. It is the ideal place for a hearty meal and good snoop around shops – even if you did splash the cash in Liverpool ONE yesterday.

Try out a jazz bar

Liverpool isn’t called a city of music for no reason, trust me. This is reflected in the Sunday night jazz bars that light up the street with a symphony of saxophones. Grab yourself a glass of pinot and put your thigh-high boots on. The Grapes, Petit Cafe Du Coin and Ruby Blues are some of the most popular jazz scenes if you’re fancying something cultured again.

Truly chill out at a spa or sauna

However, if jazz is not your scene, then try Liverpool’s new outdoor sauna and ice plunge. Sat right on the Royal Albert Docks, you can even go for a dip in the water over there if you’re feeling brave enough. The WYLD sauna is the UK’s first public floating sauna (yes, it is floating on the docks) and it’s perfect for you fitness lovers or even as self-care treat. What a way to end the weekend, right?

The next time you’re sat in your room and think there’s nothing to do around Liverpool, then think again. Let yourself be a tourist and explore the city like it’s your first time again. It’s so worth it, we promise.
