Stand Up to Racism protest disrupts Reform UK meeting in Sheffield
The meeting was moved due to ‘safety concerns’
Sheffield Stand Up To Racism disrupted a Reform UK meeting on Monday evening (3rd February).
The group of about 30 protestors – which included students – gathered outside Farm Road Social Club in Sheffield, where a Reform UK membership meeting had been scheduled to take place.
The meeting had been called off earlier in the day, with an email seen by The Sheffield Tab citing “safety concerns”.
Later on, a Facebook post by Reform Sheffield announced that the event had been moved to another venue due to “unforeseen circumstances”. The post said: “We’re pleased to report that an enjoyable evening was had by all and we’re looking forward to the next one. Reform UK has all the momentum in British politics.”
A speaker at the protest claimed that this was because they were put off by the protest, saying “they are insecure in their ideas”.
Cameron Merritt, 24, a member of Stand Up to Racism told The Sheffield Tab: “Today has been an opportunity to make the first stand against reform and their racist ideas.
“When we are able to organise people together across Sheffield we can show that when the far right organise they won’t be able to do so without serious opposition.”
A student at the protest, who wished to be kept anonymous, added: “I think its important to show solidarity and to show that people do care about racism.”
The event was the first protest against Reform UK by the group in Sheffield, and comes after a YouGov poll on voting intention put Reform in front for the first time.
In response to the news of the fatal stabbing at nearby All Saints Catholic High School earlier in the day, it was made clear that they did not want the protest to be loud or angry.

In a statement put out by Sheffield Stand Up To Racism on Instagram, it said: “Sheffield Stand Up To Racism are proud of the role we have played ensuring Reform UK were not able to meet in our city today.
“Once we found out about Reform’s meeting, we organised a counter mobilisation and approached the venue to encourage them to cancel the booking.”
The group are planning a South Yorkshire summit to plan how they can stop Reform.
Reform UK has not yet responded to comment.
