A Leeds survival guide to Dry January
Our list will have you forgetting all about your weekly Mischief cravings
Dry January doesn’t have to mean staying at home or missing out on social plans. Leeds has plenty of amazing spots to help you keep your booze-free pledge while still having a great time.
It may have been smooth sailing so far, but heading back to university and ‘refreshers’ season could definitely throw a spanner in the works. But, don’t worry, we’ve rounded up some of the best sober spots in Leeds to help you get past this midway point and to the end of the month.
Chance and Counters
Chance and Counters has quickly become one of my favourite spots in Leeds. With over 500 board games to choose from, it’s impossible not to have a good time. Whether you’re into the classics or fancy trying something completely new, there’s something for everyone. Plus, with quality tea, coffee, and milkshakes on the menu, you won’t even miss a pint.
And the best part? They’re open until 1 am on Fridays and Saturdays so it’s perfect for late night plans without the hangover!
Knoops
If you’re a sucker for a winter warmer, Knoops is where you need to be. Swap your mulled wine for what can only be described as the ultimate hot chocolate experience.
It’s simple. Pick your chocolate percentage (from sweet and creamy 28% to intense 100%), your milk, and any extra flavours you fancy. Think sea salt, orange zest, or even chilli. It’s cosy, indulgent, and basically feels like a warm hug in a cup.
Adorn
Most Read
Wondering how to catch up with friends without hitting the pub? Adorn has you covered. This little gem in the city centre lets you design and make your own jewellery- from bracelets to charm necklaces, and even welded pieces if you’re feeling fancy.
It’s such a fun, wholesome vibe, and the perfect way to do something a bit different. They’re open on Saturdays from 10am- 4pm, so head over to their Instagram to book a slot.
Kitty Café
Coffee and cats? Say no more. The Kitty Café in the city centre is a rehoming and care facility for cats and kittens, and it’s the cutest spot to catch up with friends.
You can sip on your flat white while hanging out with their furry residents, and if you get a little too attached, you can even adopt one! It’s chilled, fun, and a great way to escape the chaos of uni.
Whistle Punks
If you’re looking for something completely different, Whistle Punks is where it’s at. Instead of letting loose at the club, why not let loose with an axe? It’s such a laugh and a great way to blow off some steam.
You can compete with your mates, have a mini tournament, and maybe even discover a hidden talent for axe-throwing. Oh, and there’s a student discount so it’s budget-friendly too.
Basically, what we’re saying is that January doesn’t have to be boring- it’s all about finding fun alternatives and making the most of it. Good luck- you’ve got this! And who knows, you might just discover a new favourite way to spend your time.
