Exeter Uni Men’s Hockey go viral for game show-inspired midnight surprise TikTok series

The Exeter Hockey 5s have taken TikTok by storm with the release of a viral video announcing their latest series, “Midnight Surprise with the 5s”.

The hockey players have teased an exciting start to their latest series, revealing that Episode 1 features none other than “TikTok sensation, Matt Dyer.” This refers back to the first video on @Upthe5s TikTok, where the comment section was overrun with curious fans asking: “Is Tumble Dryer single?”

This new series consists of the players sneaking into their teammates’ room in the middle of the night, and interrogating them with questions. The hockey players are seen tip-toeing up the stairs, humorously commenting: “He’s our superstar athlete, we don’t want to disturb his beauty sleep”.

The TikTok captures Matt Dyer and the moment he is woken up by a burst of confetti and music, looking visibly confused and asking: “Who let you in here?”

With a miniature microphone in hand, the interviewers inform Dyer of his taking part in “The Midnight Surprise with the 5s”. Dyer, still half-asleep, repeatedly asks: “Who let you in here?” and “Sorry, say that again.”

In true game show form, the hockey players delve straight into the questions, such as how many views his most viral TikTok has received, and whether he knew his girlfriend’s flower – he did, “peonies.” Great choice.

The hockey players also reference Exeter’s TimePiece, commenting: “We all know how much you love a VK and the piece”, before asking if he can guess the flavour of a drink, with Matt replying: “I can’t taste right now […] is it green?”

In the “Midnight Surprise”, they also introduced a game called “Finish the Lyric” where they sing KSI’s “very popular up and coming song,” “Thick Of It”.

Matt’s girlfriend, Lottie, also features in the show with the interviewers sweetly asking what her favourite thing about Matt is. She then replies: “I love everything about Matt”.

Soon after, the players ask “how many abs Matt has”, in which she replies “um, 10”. Top tier girlfriend, right there.

After Lottie’s test, another Exeter hockey player enters the TikTok, ending the video with a poem about Matt Dyer: “Behold, tumble dryer, a sight so fair, whose charm doth sweep through digital air. On TikTok stage his beauty beams, a gentle prince of countless dreams. Forsooth, he graces the 5s with pride, in every glance a world doth bide. When viral gaze, the hearts do quake, as though the stars for him did wake. Oh, noble dryer, swift and bright, thy fame doth soar on endless night”.

At this time, the TikTok video has nearly 1,000,000 views and 113.6k likes, with comments praising “tumble dryer” and impatiently awaiting the release of episode 2.
