Exeter student houses have seen an increase in “beaning” incidents
No one is safe from the bean bandits…
Over the past month, a series of events have left students both bewildered and amused, as Exeter has seen an increase in beaning of student housing. Across Exeter Uni’s Facebook Group, Overheard, posts have been made about the multiple baked beans incidents happening around Exeter. Exeter students have been hit by a bizarre trend as students are waking up to piles of baked beans dumped outside their doors, thanks to a mystery prank now dubbed “the beaning.” Many anonymous posts have been made on Overheard where users have threatened different roads in Exeter with a “beaning” and even some anonymous users blaming specific students as the culprit.
The trend consists of baked beans being thrown on doorsteps, doormats and even cars. Videos and photos of the “beaning” have been shared across Overheard and students have been quick to complain, find sympathy or simply laugh along with the harmless prank.
While many students find humour in the situation, others have shared their frustration, mainly due to the cleanup being such a hassle. One student stated: “These beanings are getting out of hand.”
What started out as just baked beans has quickly escalated to students spotting baking ingredients, powdered milk and even a full English breakfast outside their doorstep. Another student added that “they have crossed the line” when finding the enormous mess of beans all over their front door and doorsteps.
Others members of the group are completely and utterly over the trend. With one student commenting: “No one cares nor wants to see pictures of a pathetic pile of off-brand beans on your dirty doorsteps.”
