How to survive Leeds as a foodie: Your weekly guide to cheap dining
You’re not going hungry this week
Being a student in Leeds doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the city’s incredible food scene. From cheap date nights to budget-friendly bites, we’ve rounded up the best spots in the city where you can treat yourself without breaking the bank all week long.
Monday
Another Monday rolls around but this time you’ve got a hot date and you want to make it a cheap one. Head into town and down to Pizza Punks, where you can bag yourself two pizzas or pasta dishes and two drinks for just £26.
In true punk fashion Pizza Punks are giving power to the people, allowing you to add unlimited toppings for no extra cost. Domino’s could never. Thank you Pizza Punks for giving the people what they want.
Tuesday
Tuesday only means one thing – you need some fuel before downing pints at RPP or singing your heart out at Dry Dock. Almost Famous has your back, serving up juicy burgers and flavoursome fries for £12.50 a pop.
Almost Famous burgers were created to satisfy the craving for a super juicy, no-nonsense burger that drips with flavour. Made with 100 per cent prime beef cuts, pillowy soft charred buns, melty cheese, and creamy, tangy sauces, they’re a true indulgence. Plus, to spread a little extra joy, every hour is happy hour at Almost Famous, offering two cocktails for just £15.
Wednesday
Wednesday clearly calls for something a little more adventurous, and Mommy Thai delivers just that. With two locations across Leeds, it serves up authentic Thai flavours crafted from the finest ingredients, all for the bargain price of £9.95 for two courses and a side.
Who says midweek can’t feel like a mini holiday?
Thursday
Most Read
With the end of week rush, by the time it gets to Thursday, I’m craving something quick and easy. A £10 steak and chips from IF East Parade will satisfy that craving.
IF East Parade is our ideal hybrid spot, offering everything from quality coffees and fresh bakes to grilled meats and a variety of other delicious dishes. Don’t worry if steak isn’t your thing – there’s something on the menu for everyone.
Friday
Friday finally arrives, and no, we’re not talking about TGI’s (we’ve evolved). Think something a little more upmarket like The Ivy. You can bag yourself two courses of fine dining for £19.17. Treat yourself after all of those hard, long hours spent at the library. Nothing says, ‘I worked hard this week’ like eating posh food in a bougie setting.
From modern British classics to Asian-inspired cuisine and fantastic vegan and vegetarian dishes, there’s something for everyone to love at The Ivy.
Saturday
Saturday calls for something fancy, so why not dial up that Hinge match from last week and flex with a dinner at Tattu? Two courses of pure luxury will set you back £29.90. Just don’t let them see the bill – it’s all part of the ‘I totally have my life together’ illusion.
Tattu offers more than just incredible food – its interiors are a feast for the eyes. Inspired by the evolution of body art, the space is adorned with cherry blossoms, symbolising good luck and life, and white roses- a nod to Yorkshire’s emblem and a symbol of love. Pretty cool, right?
Sunday
If you’re still feeling peckish after your week of feasting, then the iconic House of Fu is serving up £10 bowls all Sunday.
The House of Fu began in 1996 when chef, Ben Iley, dissatisfied with his ramen, traveled to Tokyo for inspiration. Upon his return, he joined the Belgrave Music Hall team, bonding with them over a mutual love of broth, noodles, and gyozas. What started as a pop-up quickly gained recognition, winning “Best of the Best” at the British Street Food Awards.
From every ramen lover in Leeds, thank you, Ben!
From Monday slices to Sunday soups, that’s your week of eats covered.
