Manchester student hospitalised in Greece after quad bike plunges seven feet off a cliff
Maddy Morris was left unconscious after the bike landed on top of her
A Manchester student was left hospitalised after a quad bike accident on holiday.
24-year-old Maddy Morris was visiting family in Corfu last month when the vehicle she was on crashed seven feet off a cliff.
After being taken to hospital alongside her friend, Maddy was left with a fractured scapula and multiple bruises and scrapes.
Travelling to the Greek island to visit family last month, Maddie decided to venture out with a friend to explore the Greek island on her birthday.
The pair used a quad back to travel around the island, but just over an hour into the drive, the two crashed seven feet off a cliff. The rental bike then landed on top of them, knocking Maddy unconscious.
Maddy explained how she feared for her life and never thought something like this would have happened to her. She said: “I thought I was going to die. I was seeing visions of people I loved as I was falling. You never think something like this is going to happen to you. I must’ve blacked out because I remember waking up on the ground – it was very scary.”
Both Maddy and her friend were left trapped under the running wheels. The student nurse said: “I managed to squeeze out a bit through a gap as we were both pinned underneath it.”
Fortunately, the pair landed on a ledge where they were picked up by passers-by who pushed the quad bike off them. They were immediately rushed to the hospital with multiple injuries.

Maddy suffered a fractured scapula as well as extensive bruises and scrapes across her body. “I thought I’d broken the whole left side of my body because I couldn’t feel anything,” she said.
Explaining why the bike veered off track in the first place, Maddy said: “We were only going 20mph, so we weren’t going fast or anything.” Maddy believes the incident was caused by a mechanical fault or uneven terrain.
Without insurance, the student had to pay for her hospital treatment out of pocket. Maddy said: “I didn’t have insurance, so I’ve learnt my lesson there – we had to pay for treatment. We self-charged because we wanted to enjoy the rest of the week. It had ruined my birthday.”
Maddy now wants to warn others about the hidden dangers of renting quad bikes abroad, especially without proper insurance. She said: “I’ll never go on a quad bike again. I thought I would be fine because I’d been on quad bikes before – and it’s just the norm out there, everyone drives one. I thought I was safe.”
The student nurse credited the safety gear she was wearing that she did not lose her life last month. She added: “I wouldn’t advise renting a quad bike to anyone. They’re deathtraps. My helmet definitely saved my life.”
