TikTok is dragging Tiffany Haddish after she was shocked to see Africa has grocery stores
‘I thought all of your foods are purchased in outdoor markets with goats and cows just hanging out waiting to be slaughtered’
American comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish has come under fire from fans after she posted a video to TikTok showing how shocked she was to see that Zimbabwe has grocery stores. She went through each section of the supermarket, claiming she likes “demystifying sh*t” and when she got to the meat section, exclaimed: “It don’t even smell bad.”
Fans have congregated in the comments of her TikTok to call her out on spreading a negative narrative about the amenities Africa has available, with one user asking Tiffany if she thought Africans “only eat grass”, and the comedian replied she thought foods were only purchased in “outdoor markets with goats and cows waiting to be slaughtered.”

In the video Tiffany Haddish recorded herself taking a tour around the grocery store, saying: “Hey y’all. I’m out here in Zimbabwe, in Harare and look at the grocery store. They got a grocery store. It’s beautiful. I just like demystifying sh*t.” When she got to another section of the supermarket she said: “It don’t smell bad. I’m in the meat department.”
Fans and TikTok users alike were quick to drag Tiffany, with one user asking: “Did you think we ate grass?” Tiffany responded, saying: “No. But the media had me thinking all of your foods are purchased in outdoor markets with goats and cows just hanging out waiting to be slaughtered. With all kinds of smells and flies everywhere.”

Another person commented: “Tiffany Haddish is one of the most annoying & ignorant actors I’ve ever come across.” One fan told Tiffany on X: “The media portrays Africa a certain way and a lot of people don’t take the time to fact check or research. Most people will accept the information that is provided to them as fact. So, I’m not surprised that she thought this.”
As recorded by TMZ, Tiffany took to X to defend herself from the backlash, writing: “I am an American a Black one at that and told for years that people are starving in Africa, showed pictures of babies with flies on them. Told crazy stories of how they kill each other and there is war everyday there.
“I asked my black friends to go with me and they were scared. We got here and I have been eyes full of tears finding out the truth. The media be lying. I thought I would share cause I know people in the USA that believe Africans don’t have anything.”
