Pennington Has A Pop!
Aberdeen Professor Hugh Pennington has a pop at SNP plans for independence.
Aberdeen’s own Bacteriologist, Professor Hugh Pennington OBE joined forces with former Strathclyde University Vice-Principal Susan Shaw and Stirling University’s Ronald J Roberts in order to speak up against the impending Scottish referendum as they feel that a “yes” vote will threaten Scottish university privileges.

Hughy ain’t happy.
The academics also claim that the Nationalists are leading a “very dangerous route” by threatening academics who choose to speak out against the SNP’s plans. They feel that has been “unacceptable treatment” of Professor Chris Whatley, a History Professor at the University of Dundee after he spoke out about the SNP at a “Better Together UK” event.

Prof is looking spec-sy.
It has been claimed that the SNP Minister for Sports Shona Robison contacted the leaders of the University of Dundee in order to complain about Whatley’s involvement at a separation debate.
It is the belief of many academics that the split will be catastrophic for Scottish university finding, which currently receives 13.1 per cent of UK Research Council funding in comparison to a population share of just 8.4 per cent. Last week a UK government analysis warned that the separation would lead to a loss of hundreds of millions of pounds in research money for Scottish universities.

Penny loves poets.
Finally the trio have said:
“The debate about Scotland’s constitutional future is of such fundamental importance to the future of Scotland and the UK that everybody should be encouraged to take part.”
