Edinburgh bar staff reveals ‘real reason’ behind Shia LeBeouf’s Cowgate clash
The Hollywood star was filmed ‘squaring up’ to locals after an Edinburgh night out last week
An Edinburgh bar worker has revealed the “real reason” why Shia LaBeouf was involved in a confrontation with a number of students last week.
The A-lister was videod appearing to “square up” to a group of late night revellers in one of Edinburgh’s nightlife hubs, Cowgate.
Filmed outside of popular bar OX184 on Wednesday 4th September, the Transformers star could be seen tossing off his hat and shouting “let’s go” and “I’m right here, motherf**kers”.
A bar worker at Stramash, a nightclub located across the road from where the incident happened, has spoken out supporting the actor telling The Sun that the altercation happened after “jealous students antagonised [Shia]”.
The bar staff goes on to explain how one of the men involved in the argument has since contacted the bar, requesting access to CCTV footage of the incident: “The guy who was involved in it has been in touch. I told him to contact the police – one of the guys who got involved with him outside.
“He messaged on Facebook asking if he could get CCTV. We could only share it with the police.”
Speaking about Shia’s behaviour leading up to the incident, the staff member explained that he was “having a great time” and that he was “antagonised” by the group of other men. They said: “I watched the CCTV, he looked like he was having a great time. He was dancing about.
“To be honest the other four guys were antagonising him. They knew who he was and they were poking at him.
“The other guys were definitely antagonising him, trying to goad him into some sort of reaction.”
The staff member added that the group, made up of four students, were then complained about by another customer and were then asked to leave.
The Fury and Indiana Jones star is currently in Edinburgh whilst his wife, Mia Goth, is shooting Guillermo del Torro’s Frankenstein. Other Hollywood stars have been spotted across Scotland, including in Glasgow and Aberdeenshire.
The incident was filmed and a 37 second clip was posted on TikTok, where Shia LeBeouf was seen raging at the group of locals outside the OX184 bar on Cowagate.
In the video shared on social media, Shia can be seen telling an unknown man in a white t-shirt “I’m right here, I’m by myself.” Another unknown man then stands between the two men and appears to be trying to diffuse the tension, before Shia begins to walk away.
But after being followed by the man in white, a number of men intervene and try to get between the two men. Shia then turns around and returns to the middle of the cobbled street and can be heard shouting “I’m right here” at a group of men.
Stood in the middle of the road, he throws his cap off and gesticulates wildly at the ground and towards an unknown group of men, saying: “I’m right here though. You and me, let’s go.”
A number of men intervene again and walk Shia and the unknown man apart, with one wrapping his arms around Shia’s body before the A-Lister walks off.
Shia LeBeouf has been approached for comment.
