Britney Spears just dragged Sabrina Carpenter’s VMAs performance in a random Insta video

The VMAs in this day and age are seemingly less about making new iconic moments for the show, but paying tribute to the pop icons that made the show such an essential part of the pop culture calendar year after year. This year, there were nods to Britney Spears from the likes of Tate McRae and Addison Rae – but Sabrina Carpenter especially paid tribute to Britney during her Please Please Please x Taste x Espresso medley – nodding t0 both Britney’s Madonna kiss and the music video for Oops I Did It Again. Britney Spears has lowkey dragged Sabrina Carpenter for the reference in her VMAs performance in a very rare Instagram video – and it’s kinda weird.

Britney Spears used to post videos of her talking and saying stuff on Instagram loads, but has mostly just stuck to dance videos these days. She did break her silence regarding the Sabrina performance, though – and the video is half her dragging Sabrina and half her praising the new pop gal.

In the video, Britney says “Okay, so did you guys watch the VMAs? I didn’t watch the VMAs. But I did see some stuff on my phone from YouTube – of Sabrina Carpenter. Why is she kissing an alien on stage? I adore her. I love her to death. I didn’t understand that part. Why didn’t she kiss a girl? That was weird.

“But I also thought that the whole thing was kind of like, weird altogether. After watching that I took a really long bath. I am into colouring right now. I like to colour and I like to trace. I don’t know why I’m talking about that. Oh, it’s because that Sabrina girl she said my name on the red carpet. I thought that was kind of cool because I forget I’m famous sometimes, because I’m a mum, I’m old. But I thought that was kind of cool that this Sabrina girl – Carpenter – she said something. That’s cool. She made me cool.”

It’s a mix of love and confusion, but the alien section Britney Spears dragged at the VMAs refers to Sabrina Carpenter kissing the alien that emerges during the performance section that references Britney. Wowza.
