They’re all pretty appalling, but here are the best side characters in Emily in Paris ranked
Only one lady has my number one spot
Emily in Paris is a whirlwind of a show that has ended up being an ironic staple of Netflix. Emily, an American marketing queen, makes a life for herself in the heart of Paris but it isn’t the dreamy, smooth-sailing experience she thought it would be. A lot of the time, it’s the side characters who keep Emily in check that make the show fun. She’s met some weirder friends, and has some weirder colleagues. Here’s a ranked list of all of the side characters in Emily in Paris that make the show bearable throughout the cringe.
8. Camille
I was very mixed about putting Camille on this list at all, because she just has this indescribable annoying quality. However, we all seem to forget that Camille was actually dating Gabriel for five years before he started acting up with Emily. She was a lovely friend and it’s a shame all the silly love triangle drama got in the way of that. But hey, there wouldn’t be much of a show without it.
7. Julian
Julian was definitely a character I knew would grow on me, and he is. But, there were definitely times he was frustrated with being upstaged by Emily. I also really think Emily needs to adopt the French work-life balance instead of continuing to push her American work ethic onto everyone – because Julian ISN’T having it!
6. Gabriel
I mean, he HAD to be on the list, however I’ve reluctantly put him quite low down. He was a TERRIBLE boyfriend to Camille and was just waiting for a way out (which happened to take the form of an American girl). He can’t make a decision to save his life. However, if you erase all of the weird love interest sides of his character, he’s actually a good friend to Emily. He helped her speak French when she needed it (the plumber, people running the fruit and vegetable stands, etc), gave away his evenings to cook for her and her colleagues and helped her with out-of-hours work events. He really isn’t such a villain when you look at it that way.
5. Antoine
I feel like he’s written to be a bit slimy, but Antoine is actually so likeable and charming! He’s a great listener, and he just seems wonderful to everyone (except his wife). He was rude about the lavender when he was upset, but he did make up for it. He supports everyone around him and is very different from what I expected. I don’t know about you, but his apart from affairs, he seems pretty perfect!
4. Luc
Luc is a pretty iconic character, and it didn’t take me as long as the other characters to like him. Emily’s adjustment to Parisian life was tough, but Luc always seemed to have a soft spot for her. That’s not to say that there haven’t been times I would have liked to fire him myself.
3. Alfie
Although frosty at first, Alfie is fun, cute, and being British, he hasn’t lived up to the French cheating stereotype the show has inflicted upon all French people. However, he’s not without his flaws – he is just a little bit too “alright mate” for my liking. But, I’ll give him bonus points for being so dreamy!
2. Mindy
Mindy is an absolute icon in the show, and definitely makes Emily’s life more interesting. She’s fun, wild and always doing something completely random, but in the best way. My one request? Producers, please stop making her sing!
1. Sylvie
Of course Sylvie is making it to number one on the Emily in Paris ranked characters list. It definitely took us some time to warm to her, but really she’s the mean girl of our dreams who kept pushing Emily to be her best. It’s about time an older woman got a fun scandalous plotline! Yes, she cheated on her husband, had an unprofessional relationship with a client, and literally fired Emily early on in the show, but there’s times when she’s carrying this entire plotless show on her back.
