Bret Engemann was originally cast on The Bachelorette, so here’s what happened
Demi and her ex-husband were the ones who signed him up!
It turns out that Bret Engemann was originally cast on The Bachelorette rather than Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, so why exactly did he never appear on the show?
Well, as it turns out it was actually Demi who originally signed him up to appear on the show, which led to him getting successfully cast for season 16.

This all happened before the pair started romantically seeing each other, with Demi explaining exactly what happened on TikTok.
She explained: “So if you don’t know, my husband and I are 16 years apart and I knew him through a family friend growing up. He was so much older than me. When I was nine years old, he was married to his first wife and having babies.”

She continued, saying that as she and her ex husband were considering divorce they ran into Bret at the gym.
The two found out that Bret Engemann was single after his divorce, with Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Demi suggesting he should apply for The Bachelorette, and later they decided to anonymously submit him for the show.
His application for the show was successful and he was all set to appear on season 16, and would have been the oldest contestant of the season.

However, it didn’t quite go to plan as whilst filming was supposed to start on March 13th, 2020 the entire production was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Filming restarted four months later, but Bret decided he didn’t want to take part anymore and pulled out.
He explained the reasoning behind his dropout on Instagram, saying: “I couldn’t make it happen with the delayed timing.
“My sons needed me to help coach during football season and I would have missed the first few games if I went on the show. Just bad timing for me.”
