Producers axe UK version of American show where celebrities live inside space simulator
Ugh, not going to see Simon Cowell living on Mars
Stars on Mars is the USA reality show by Fox where celebrities lived inside a space simulator for weeks. It was all set to come to the UK, but that’s now been cancelled, so unfortunately we won’t get to see any British celebrities try their hand at living on a different planet.
The first season in America aired in 2023 and featured Vanderpump Rules star Tom Schwartz, Lance Armstrong, Ariel Winter, Adam Rippon, Tallulah Willis, Natasha Leggero, host William Shatner, Porsha Williams, and Marshawn Lynch, and it was full of drama!
Some celebrities joined halfway through, such as Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Richard Sherman, Ashley Iaconetti, Ronda Rousey, Andy Richter, Cat Cora, Paul Pierce, and Tinashe, and the latter ended up becoming a (spoiler alert!) runner-up.
People described the show as “unbearable and disappointing,” and the UK version has been axed before it even went into production. It was being developed by Thames, who create Britain’s Got Talent, and would have crowned the remaining astronaut as the winner.
Elon Musk is now being blamed for its cancellation. A TV insider told The Sun: “Blame the new space race courtesy of Elon Musk for sparking a renewed interest in all things extra-terrestrial,” adding it was only a matter of time before someone came up with the concept.
“But it’s understood that initial soundings suggested there might not have been a long queue of stars forming to take part,” the source added. The show only has a 5.4-star rating on IMDb, which hasn’t had a season two confirmed in the USA.
The production had already started to line up potential famous faces and a well-known presenter two years ago. Spoiler alert! Adam Rippon, the Olympic figure skater, won the first season of Stars on Mars, after assembling a satellite to send a message back to Earth.
