After its cancellation, Taylor Frankie Paul shares why she almost turned down The Bachelorette
She had some major hesitations about the role
Taylor Frankie Paul actually revealed she almost turned down The Bachelorette before its recent cancellation, amid domestic abuse allegations. A video was leaked which showed Taylor and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, involved in an altercation.
Taylor dishes on her Bachelorette role
Taylor was officially the next lead of The Bachelorette, and although that entire season was filmed and ready to go, it’s been pulled by ABC. But before all of the drama, Taylor said on Call Her Daddy podcast that the whole scenario is totally “surreal.”
She explained: “Right now, I’m just thinking about it and it’s like, it’s not real. It’s not gonna be until the limo’s pulling up and I’ll be meeting the people, so nervous. How did I get here? In my head, I’m like, “How is this happening?” That is my literal, that’s my answer.”
She reveals why she almost turned it down
Obviously, being offered the role of being The Bachelorette is a pretty big deal, and hardly anyone’s going to turn it down. But Taylor actually admitted that she had some doubts. She told Alex: “I guess going in my head. I’m like, ‘Okay, how do I make this work?'”
“I’m a co-parent… I have two baby daddies, not one, so I’m dealing with two different people, right? My children, my home base is here. Can I travel that long? Can I be gone that long?’ But then I’m also thinking on the side, I’m like, the other two moms,” she said.
“They are in my group, are doing Dancing with the Stars and they brought their family out, but also they have their husbands with them, so for me, I’m like, is this possible for me to do as a single mom? Can I make it work realistically?” Taylor reflected at the time.

“No matter how much I want this, and you know, I was like, I can. If I want to, I can. You can do anything you want if you want, and it comes down to that. I’ll make it work… I have a team of people that I don’t think I utilise. You know, I can have them,” she said.
“I can ask for help more and I don’t, you know, usually, but I came to a point where I cannot do all of this alone, so you know, I hired all my family, assistant, nanny and I was just like, we’re gonna do it,” Taylor concluded, yet all of that filming has now been scrapped.
She also added how it’s not like anything she’s done before. She explained: “My mom was like, I think this is a great opportunity. This is something so new for me because I got married young, divorced, and then the first guy I met was the next relationship.”
“I have not done the whole meeting new people, like dating at the same time. I don’t know. You know how The Bachelor works. You’re dating, right, like several people, and so I’ve never done that. So, that would be new to me,” Taylor added.

Taylor Frankie Paul has now released a statement in response to the leaked video of her throwing the stools, with her rep telling Entertainment Weekly: “It’s sad to see the latest instalment of his never-ending, desperate, attention-seeking, destructive campaign to harm Taylor without any regard for the consequences for their child, by releasing an old video, which conveniently omits context.
“It was their son’s birthday, and is a reprehensible attempt to distract from his behaviour. Thankfully, the public has seen this act and knows who he is and sadly, many will recognise this pattern of manipulation, both in his actions on the show, and from experiences.”
Dakota has also released his own statement to Entertainment Weekly, saying: “His number one priority here is protecting [their 2-year-old son], Ever. He knew there was a possibility it could come out, but he was not going to be the one to proactively do that because he has always wanted a decent relationship with Taylor. It’s been really hard to achieve that, but he wants to co-parent well.”
“He was just hoping that if he says nothing, as he usually does, it would go away. He’s never done any kind of sit-down interview about his side. He kind of just lets it all happen to him, and I think he realizes with the severity of everything now that he just can’t do that.”
