The Glee stars who want to return, as Ryan Murphy confirms the reboot script is done

Just as the final season of American Horror Story is about to release, showrunner Ryan Murphy has dropped a bombshell: Glee could be coming back. 

Not to sound dramatic, but Glee legit changed lives. Not only did the National Association for Music Education spot a spike in student interest after the show, but LGBTQ+ acceptance in America also increased dramatically. Iconic, to say the least. 

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday, Ryan Murphy confirmed that he’d finished the script literally an hour before. 

“Well, funny you ask, ’cause I just finished the script an hour ago,” he said. “So, we have a script. Brad [Falchuk], Ian [Brennan] and I, who wrote all the first two seasons, have written something. I’ve been in touch with around 10 of the original cast members. It’s very sweet, and they all had a lot of questions, but they all were very enthusiastic about the idea.”

There’s obviously still a way to go before Sue Sylvester is bullying kids once again, but the cogs are turning.

Here are stars who have been keen to step back into their roles. 

Lea Michele IS Rachel Berry

Lea Michele did such a good job of playing Rachel that it’s hard to separate them, but that’s undoubtedly worked for her career. She’s literally followed in the footsteps of the character she played. 

Just a week before Ryan Murphy’s comments, Lea said: “I love Glee. I will always love Glee. I love Ryan Murphy. It just holds such a special place in my heart for me… I will follow Ryan wherever he goes.”

Jenna Ushkowitz is also game

Jenna Ushkowitz, who played Tina Cohen-Chang, had just one condition for her return: Ryan Murphy being involved.

You can’t do a Glee reboot without Jane Lynch

Sue Sylvester is by far the most iconic character from Glee, and the world is a much darker place without her signature red and white striped tracksuit. 

“It would be so much fun,” Jane Lynch said in 2024. “It’s a great character, and I think that, as she ages, 10 years older than the finale, I think there are other things to be added. I think it would be really fun to play Sue Sylvester 10 years later.”

Others have said it’s a hard no

Though some actors, like Kevin McHale, Heather Morris, and Darren Criss, have shared some interest if the story and subject are right, others have vehemently said no way. Those include the legendary Amber Riley and Chris Colfer, who played Kurt, unfortunately. 

Then there’s the sad elephant in the room: The stars who simply couldn’t return because they sadly passed away. People like Naya Rivera, Cory Monteith, and Mark Salling. 

Please, for the love of god, leave Matthew Morrison to his raunchy comedy shows.
