The top Bristol brunch spots to cure a hangover

Tried and tested places every Bristol student should know

Whether you spent your night crying in the toilets at SWX or went just for ‘casual’ drinks at The White Bear and woke up with £4.27 to your name, nothing helps like a good brunch. Luckily, Bristol is notorious for its café scene, and we’ve rounded up the best places to eat when you need to forget about your head pounding and your stomach growling.

Rubicon Too

A classic student favourite, and for all the right reasons. Rubicon Too is just off Cotham Hill and has everything you want the morning after: Good breakfast, strong coffee and outdoor seating (for some much-needed fresh air). You will probably spot at least three people you know before ordering your food, making it the perfect spot to watch the world go by with your friends. That’s why it’s where my housemates and I always end up after meeting up on a Thursday afternoon.

Saffron

For not just great food but also a nice atmosphere go to Saffron, a sister restaurant to Rubicon. But what makes Saffron such a good spot is its location. Clifton is full of independent bakeries and coffee and matcha shops, briefly making you forget you’re in Bristol. You could even take your coffee to go and enjoy a slow walk to the Suspension Bridge if you need to reconnect with nature. To cure any feelings of hangxiety, you should really treat yourself to a cookie from Anna across the street, the best sweet treats in Bristol.

Mercy, Mercy, Mercy

Just few doors down from Saffron, this is the place to take your parents when they come up to visit. Or to prove to your home friends that Bristol has much more to offer than just mould and DnB. The food is always delicious, I would order the hash browns, and the coffee is even better. The only downside can be the long wait, but it is always worth it.

Little Bagel co

For the kind of hangover where the thought of a sit-down meal is too much to stomach and if bagels are your favourite carb to soak it all up. Little bagel co is placed conveniently on Queen’s Avenue, perfect for those who have enough courage to attend their seminars. The menu is massive, with sweet and savoury options, they even do a fry up in a bagel. Somehow its harder to choose your bagel than to forget the drunk texts you sent at 2am.

Juice Jar

Another good Queens Avenue location is Juice Jar. Serving delicious smoothies, juices, and acai bowls, which are all great solutions to balance the excessive amount of jaeger bombs you drank the night before and make you feel like you have made a vaguely healthy decision. But don’t worry if you’re in the mood for something greasier, they make amazing toasties too.

Parsons

Parsons are notorious for their meal deals and their sausage rolls, a good option for your bank account and your appetite. Sometimes a small portion of an overpriced brunch is not beneficial to the hangover and instead you are in need of something quick and comforting.  It fortunately has multiple locations, meaning one is never too far away.

Fed

Fed has a few cafes around Bristol and are well known for their incredible pastries and seasonal dishes. Meaning there is always something a little different on the menu, but they always tend to have some warm toasties and colourful salads on offer. However, they do tend to sell out quickly, so you may have to struggle to make it out the door before the afternoon.
