Final video of Judge Frank Caprio shows him sharing one last heartfelt message

Frank Caprio, aka the “nicest judge in the world,” has passed away at the age of 88, and a moving final video posted on Instagram shows him making one last heartfelt request to his followers.

The Caught in Providence star passed away peacefully yesterday, 20 August, following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, his family confirmed. A statement released on his Instagram read, “Judge Frank Caprio passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, he touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond.”

Caprio first revealed his cancer diagnosis in late 2023. He told his viewers he was undergoing treatment in Rhode Island and Boston. True to character, he remained open and optimistic throughout the journey, often sharing updates and thanking his supporters for their encouragement.

Even in his final hours, he did just that. He recorded a short but emotional Instagram video from his hospital bed, asking followers to keep him in their thoughts.

“Last year I asked you to pray for me, and it’s very obvious that you did, because I came through a very difficult period,” Caprio said in the clip. “Unfortunately, I’ve had a setback. I’m back in the hospital. Now, I’m coming to you again and asking you to remember me in your prayers once more.”

Caprio’s courtroom moments from Caught in Providence regularly went viral. Whether handling minor traffic cases or listening to people’s personal struggles, he balanced fairness with empathy.

Since his death was confirmed, tributes have been shared widely, remembering him not only as a judge but as a man who proved that justice could be delivered with kindness.

As his family said, “His warmth, humour, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.”
