Wait! Is Tyler’s master, Marilyn Thornhill, actually dead in Wednesday season two?
‘There’s always a way’
There are complicated relationships in Netflix’s Wednesday, and then there’s Tyler Galpin and his so-called “master” Marilyn Thornhill. In Wednesday, theirs has always been one of the darkest. She’s the one who unlocked his full Hyde potential back in season one, and he’s the loyal, if occasionally unstable, monster she shaped. But underneath it all, it’s never really been about loyalty. It’s about control.
So when they finally come face to face again in season two, it’s not exactly a warm reunion. Actually, it’s more like the end of a very toxic chapter.
So, what exactly happens?

It all starts when Dr Fairburn brings Thornhill to Willow Hill. The official idea is simple: She wants to figure out what Thornhill did to Tyler so she can help rehabilitate him. But obviously, Thornhill isn’t there to help. She’s there to play the game on her terms.
Basically, the moment they’re in the same room, you can feel that twisted master-and-monster dynamic switch back on. Hunter Doohan, who plays Tyler, even said they wanted him to feel like a “caged animal” this season; unpredictable, dangerous, and impossible to read.
Then comes the chaos. Judi reveals who she really is, tries to kill Fester and Wednesday, and Fester responds by unleashing a massive surge of electricity. The power cuts out across Willow Hill, doors unlock, and suddenly Tyler is free, Hyde mode and all.

Thornhill runs straight to him, maybe expecting her old protégé to be happy to see her. Instead, she gets a very different greeting. Tyler leans in and says, “You’re not my mother, you’re my master. Or should I say, you were…” Then he gives her a terrifying five-second head start, punctuated by one chilling word: Run.
She does. It doesn’t work. Moments later, in full Hyde form, Tyler catches her and plunges his claws into her torso.
So, is Marilyn Thornhill actually dead?

via Netflix
Well… maybe. On most shows, getting mauled by a Hyde would be the end of the story. But this is Wednesday, and as co-creator Alfred Gough pointed out, “Never say never.” Miles Millar went even further, “In this show, no one is officially dead dead. There’s always a way.”
Basically, Thornhill might be gone, for now, but we’ve learned not to write anyone off completely in Nevermore’s world. If she does come back, it’ll probably be at the exact moment Tyler least expects it.
