How to pull off Instagram’s controversial new feature that lets you rearrange your grid

It doesn’t have to be chronological anymore

Instagram has launched a brand new feature as the platform seeks to elevate creativity, but not everyone is so happy about it. You can barely go a month without Instagram adding a new feature no one asked for at this point, and this one is going to change everything once people start to run riot with it. We’re all pretty used to the concept of pinning a few of your fave posts from Instagram at the top of your grid, but the general accepted consensus since the dawn of the app is that you scroll down through posts in chronological order – from most recent to oldest. The ones you’d rather die than let your situationship see, etc. Now however, Instagram has announces that going forward users will be able to arrange the posts on their grid however they see fit.

It seeks to encourage creativity, but I fear it’s going to make it feel more influencer-y than ever when we’re all seeking authenticity. Here’s how the new feature is going to work and how to do it as it rolls out globally.

Instagram announced a load of creator inspired features

In a bid to launch a new creator inspired initiative, which sees artists like Tyler the Creator and Rosalía get new features with Instagram including a font inspired directly by Rosalía’s handwriting, Instagram announces a new grid rearrangement feature. In the company’s announcing statement on its press centre, it says “We know creative expression can feel intimidating, especially when posting something to feed. To address this directly, we’re exploring a way to let you quietly post to your profile without broadcasting it to everyone’s feeds. We’ll also make it possible to re-order the posts on your grid. We hope this added flexibility over how and where your content shows up helps you create and share without added pressure.”

If you’re one of the lucky (or unlucky) ones who has got this feature from Instagram when the company started rolling it out yesterday, then you can go to your grid and hold down a post and you will be able to see a drop down menu. I’ve not got it yet, but if you have you’ll see an edit grid option amongst the usual pin, archive, share options. You will then be able to rearrange the grid however you see fit.

It’s an aesthetic creator’s dream, but I’m going to leave it how it is girlies. I hate change!
