Casting producer shares six simple rules to follow and nail a MAFS Australia audition
They’ve spilled all about what makes potential cast members stand out
A casting producer has shared some simple rules when it comes to an application for MAFS Australia. Basically, this is their insight into how to get a spot on the show, and get noticed against the thousands of other applicants.
The application for MAFS Australia is long and specific. It asks very intricate questions such as “do you have any skeletons in your closet” (yes, really) and asks hopefuls to delve into their relationship history. But, once you’ve submitted an application, that really is just the beginning.
Holly Bryar, who is behind The Reality Directory and founder of Bryar Casting, has chatted with Daily Mail Australia about the rules people should follow if they want to get cast. She’s helped people get onto the biggest shows in Aus, and has now lifted the lid on the dos and don’ts of auditioning for MAFS. Here’s what she said.

1. Answer the phone, always
Ok this one sounds pretty simple, but how many times do you ignore an unknown number or No Caller ID? All the time, right? Well if you want to get cast on MAFS, that’ll be the call from producers you’re Googling the number of afterwards, instead of picking up.
“If you get a call after submitting your application, answer it,” Holly said. “We often call from a No Caller ID number, and if you ask us to call you back, you’re probably going to the bottom of the list.”
2. Don’t get annoyed if you get asked to move during your audition

There is nothing more annoying than having to get up and move during a Zoom call. But it happens. And during a MAFS audition, you probably will be asked to change locations. Just do it!
“We’re not trying to be difficult. We just want you to look good – especially if your audition ends up on national television,” Holly explained. “Dating shows are notorious for needing good visuals. We don’t want to waste time fixing your lighting or telling you to clean up your messy bedroom when we could be getting to know you.”

3. Always show up, and always be on time
With this one, you need to understand that the busiest person in this situation is the producer, not you. If you can’t make time for them and show up, they’ll just go with one of their many, many other options. So if you get given an audition time, show up to it and don’t be late. Casting producers will be having these auditions back to back, so they won’t wait. You really do only have one shot.
Holly said: “It doesn’t matter if it’s our first audition of the day or our tenth – we’ve set aside time for you. Please respect that. Life happens, we get it. But by the time you hope to ‘reschedule’, the show may already be cast.”
4. Never overkill with questions
You might have a million questions you want to ask the MAFS Australia producer, but one of the top rules is not to bombard during your application. There will be plenty of time for you to find out how much annual leave you need to book off… if you’re successful.
“We understand you have a Google Drive full of selfies and want to know everything,” Holly said. “But right now, we’re just trying to figure out if you’re a good fit. If you progress, we’ll keep you updated.”

5. When it comes to your audition location, give it a little bit of thought
“Don’t join from your morning walk or while your housemate is yelling on a Teams call,” Holly said. So yeah, be a bit more cautious with where you join your audition from. Holly added: “Each stage of casting has its own requirements, and we need you to follow them properly. And no, we can’t just ‘FaceTime it’.”
6. Don’t spill!
Finally, and you might think nothing will come of this, but tell nobody of your audition. It really is important that you don’t tell anyone you’re aiming to take part in a show, even close friends and family. The temptation to tell everyone might be there, and you might think nobody would find out, but if they do – it’s curtains on your chance.
Holly said that “confidentiality is key”. Reality shows are often filmed months before they air – so you’ll need to keep your journey confidential for viewers. If you can’t even be trusted to do this about your application, you don’t really stand a chance.
