University of Manchester to award Molly-Mae honorary degree in fashion business

The Love Island star turned business woman is being recognised for her wide influence and contributions to fashion

British Love Island Star Molly-Mae Hague has been selected to receive an honorary degree from the University of Manchester.

The degree is in recognition of her contributions to the fashion industry, including her work as creative director for PrettyLittleThing and her own brand, Maebe.

An award ceremony will take place on April 31st, where Molly will attend the university campus to accept the degree in fashion business.

In a statement, the University of Manchester expressed its pride in awarding the honorary degree, acknowledging Molly-Mae’s role in revolutionising how the fashion industry interacts with influencers and digital platforms.

The honorary degree comes in recognition of how Molly-Mae has turned her social media following into a thriving business empire. The award also highlights her status as a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs and a key figure in modern fashion marketing.

Since placing second alongside Tommy Fury in season five of Love Island, Molly has not only made an impact in the fashion world but has also launched her own fake tan brand, Filter by Molly-Mae.

Molly-Mae will join a list of prominent figures who have received honorary degrees from the university including Marcus Rashford, solidifying her place among industry leaders and influential names.

This recognition only adds to Molly-Mae’s impressive list of accolades, with her continued growth in business, the launch of her own brand Maebe and her 8.5 million followers on her personal Instagram account alone.

A second year fashion journalism student, Jo Kerr, told The Manchester Tab how she believed Molly’s contributions had benefitted students like herself and the community in Manchester as a whole.

She said: “Molly has really changed the way I see fashion and her style influence can be felt not only on campus, but across the whole city. I idolise her and she couldn’t deserve this degree more. I really hope she brings Ellie Bellie when she comes on campus.”

A spokesperson for the University of Manchester told The Manchester Tab: We are delighted to award Molly-Mae Hague an honorary degree in fashion business. Her entrepreneurial journey and remarkable contributions to the fashion industry, particularly in harnessing the power of digital platforms, make her an inspiring role model.

“Molly-Mae’s dedication and innovative approach to business exemplify the qualities we value at the University of Manchester, and we are proud to recognise her achievements.”
