Parks, picnics and pints: Here’s how you can have a Spring reset as a Liverpool student
Your liver may need a break after St Paddy’s, but so does your brain x
Without a doubt, over St Patrick’s weekend, Concert Square was buzzing with students partying until the early hours. If you were one of those who indulged in one too many shots of Baby Guinness, forgot to grab a bite before hitting the pubs, and maybe even skipped a few lectures in the process, you’re probably feeling the effects right about now.
Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. Now the celebrations are out of the way, this time in the semester is a weird mash up of dissertation deadlines, pub gardens after lectures and ignoring assignments to go and sit in Sefton Park. It’s easy to get in a bit of a slump at any point in the year, but we’ve got some simple yet effective ways to hit the reset button this Spring – because not only does your brain deserve a break after the chaos of St Paddy’s weekend, but let’s face it, so does your liver.
From wholesome activities to general life admin, here’s how to give yourself a bit of a Spring reset over the next few weeks. It’ll be blooming brilliant – get it?
Visit Sefton Park, obviously
Reconnect with nature, they say! Touch grass after having one too many doubles on a Wednesday night! It might be overused, but they’re right. Spring is the perfect time to enjoy Sefton Park’s lush greenery and tranquil views. Take a leisurely walk around the park, grab a coffee from one of the nearby cafés, and unwind in nature.

You can even feed the ducks and have a guilt free, alcohol free picnic to reset and recharge. It’s the kind of serene environment your body and mind crave after the madness of a weeknight bender. Plus, are you even a Liverpool student if you don’t go for a wander around Sefton Park with your housemates every so often?
Take a stroll down Lark Lane
Clear your head and treat yourself to a wander down Lark Lane. The area is packed with independent shops, retro boutiques, and even an antique store. It’s the perfect spot to browse and pick up something unique, while also giving yourself a break from the party scene. After all, it’s a very nice day out when you’re exploring one of Liverpool’s hidden gems.
You can grab yourself a pastry from Lunko if the queue isn’t out the door, and with so many charity shops and quirky vintage shops on and around the street, you can treat your bedroom to a Spring revamp with some new trinkets and decorations. Feeling a bit bland and boring now the sun’s coming out? Go on a hunt for some second hand clothes or accessories to reinvent yourself for the new semester. It makes for such a wholesome trip.
Attend a chill gig at The Jacaranda
If you’re fed up with the same old Y2K anthems blaring in Concert Square, it might be time for a change of pace. Head on down to The Jacaranda on Slater Street, where the vibe is much more laid back. You can enjoy live music in a more relaxed setting, perfect for unwinding and recharging your social batteries. Trust me, a chill gig is just what you need to get back into the swing of things. You never know, you might discover your new favourite local band while you’re at it.
Go for a walk on Crosby or Formby Beach
By the time Spring rolls around, the weather’s warming up, and every student remembers that Crosby Beach is just a short 20 minute trip from Liverpool Central Station. Our beloved Formby is only a little further than that too!
Whether you’re nursing a hangover or just need some fresh air, the beach offers the perfect place to clear your head. Bring some snacks, enjoy an ice cream, soak up the sun, and make sure you’ve packed the sunscreen for those warmer days ahead. It’s a peaceful escape that’s easy to get to, even when you’re in need of some serious downtime.
Attend one of the Girls on the Go events
If you’re looking to meet new people, get more active, or just shake off the general feeling of doom and gloom, the Girls on the Go group have some fantastic events lined up. It’s an all girl organisation helping female identifying people to make friends, push themselves out of their comfort zones, and bring a bit of platonic love to the city.
From yoga and pilates classes to colouring book nights, speed friending, and even weekly run clubs, these events will not only help you reset but also let you connect with other like-minded students. It’s a great way to get out of the post-party haze and start fresh, both mentally and physically. Most of the events are free or very cheaply priced, so it’s an easy and budget-friendly way into having some wholesome nights out that won’t break the bank.
Spruce up your uni room for Spring
It might have been hellish when you were roped into the annual Spring clean by your parents as a teenager, but when you’ve got your own sanctuary to look after as a uni student, it’s so much more enjoyable. If you don’t fancy a trek out of Smithdown, staying in to spruce up your student bedroom and order some decorative bits is a perfect way to honour the sunny weather – without the added stress of being in Liverpool ONE on a Saturday afternoon.
Giving your bedroom a quick clean, clearing out or donating some old clothes and shoving all those random bits and bobs under your bed can do wonders for your mind. You’ll feel bright and refreshed – buy yourself some cheap flowers during your next food shop and stick them in a pint glass you nicked from the Black Cat, and you’re all sorted.
Grab some food in the Baltic Triangle
The Baltic Triangle is a vibrant area full of cool cafés, street food vendors, and independent eateries that are perfect for refuelling from a wild weekend. Whether you’re in the mood for a delicious brunch, vegan delights, or some cheeky street food, this creative hotspot has something for everyone.
You can stop by Baltic Market, a popular indoor food hall, where you can sample a variety of dishes while soaking in the lively, laid-back atmosphere. It’s a great spot to enjoy some good food and recharge – without the chaos of Concert Square. Plus, nothing screams Spring more like sitting outside with a fruity drink and some small plates to share between friends.
Go to the record fair at the Bombed Out Church
If you’re looking for something a little different to do in the city centre, why not check out the monthly record fair at the iconic Bombed Out Church? Whether you’re hunting for affordable records to add to your collection, on the lookout for retro items, or simply want to browse something unique, this is the place to be.
The fair is packed with thousands of records, both old and new, so you can dig through crates and discover hidden gems. Drag some of your friends along, or have a solo date in the sunshine – grabbing a coffee and a pastry and flicking through some vinyl is an ideal Spring weekend activity. It’s a perfect way to take a break from the usual and find something nostalgic, whilst enjoying the charm of one of Liverpool’s most distinctive venues.
These easy ideas should help you reset this spring and recover from the chaos of St Patrick’s weekend. Whether you’re looking for some quiet time or something a bit more active, Liverpool has plenty of options to help you recharge and get back to feeling recharged, especially after reading week!
