Erm guys, St Patrick’s Day caused literal chaos on Liverpool streets this year
Apparently the city centre ‘smelt disgusting’ the morning after
Now St Patrick’s Day has been and gone, we’ve all seen the videos of how busy Concert Square got on Monday afternoon. You’ve opened plenty of funny snaps from your friends of them falling over outside McCooley’s multiple times, but have you seen anything about the aftermath of the big day?
Students have taken to TikTok to share the extent of the chaos that ensued after Paddy’s Day, which includes mounds of pizza boxes, plastic cups and general waste being left on the streets in and around the city centre.
In videos posted to social media, piles of rubbish can be seen littered all the way down Bold Street, Castle Street, and the depths of Concert Square.
@4573lmaohowfunny Liverpool, morning after St. Paddy’s
Was it St Patrick’s Day or a zombie apocalypse? We can’t even tell.
Many of them are praising Liverpool City Council for their efforts in cleaning the place up on Tuesday morning, and watchers can see bin lorries and street cleaners taking to the roads to tackle the worst of the mess.
One user shared a video on TikTok backed by some eerie classical music as they walked down the streets of Liverpool city centre surrounded by strewn takeaway boxes, empty crates of beer and plenty of suspicious looking liquids left on top of bins.
Every bin seen in the video was completely packed full of rubbish.
The comment section didn’t seem to happy at the sight of the post-celebration chaos, with one local user complaining that “so many people visited our city for Paddy’s and decided to just dump their trash in our streets”.
Others blamed “obnoxious uni students” and said “the whole city” needs “jet washing”.

Some people took to the comments to thank local authorities for ensuring the streets were “spotless at 10am” with some even claiming that by the afternoon, “you’d barely have known” how bad the mess had gotten overnight.
Liverpool City Council shared a video on their own TikTok page, documenting their team of street cleaners successfully tidying up the city centre and getting it back to scratch. They thanked everyone involved for their efforts.

Each clip showcases the extent of the mess, and then cuts to a picture perfect shot of Bold Street looking incredibly clean in the sunshine. Users celebrated their “incredible work” and called it an “impressive” shift.
Ironically, they posted the video to the tune of Plastic Beach by Gorillaz.
However, the negativity continued throughout the comments as local residents demanded to “charge the students tax” as there were “still loads of vomit and cans” on Wood Street and Fleet Street.
The same user claimed “it smelt disgusting” in the city centre the morning after St Patrick’s Day.
Let’s hope that next year doesn’t cause as much chaos as 2025.
