Here are the best spots to visit as an international student at a Liverpool University
I’m just surviving and thriving in my new home away from home
Being away from home for multiple semesters is never an easy feat, and although Liverpool is bursting with life, history, and culture, it’s easy to feel a little bit directionless at times. Knowing all the best spots in town to go out to, or the most popular tourist attractions across the city is difficult when you first arrive here – but don’t worry, we’ve got you.
Whether you’re planning a solo trip out to see the sights, or taking your family around the city to show off your new home, there are so many different landmarks that have to make it onto your weekend itinerary. They’re popular for a reason, believe me.
Head on down to the Albert Dock
Kick off your adventure at the iconic Albert Dock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that sets the scene for a whole day of exploration. You can immerse yourself in the world of The Beatles at The Beatles Story, and uncover the captivating exhibitions at the Museum of Liverpool. Catching the sunset at The Docks is always a go to activity for most students – and it’s a good place to go to reconnect with nature during a particularly rough hangover.
Visit an art gallery or two
For art enthusiasts, the Walker Art Gallery and Tate Liverpool’s temporary gallery are certainly must visits. If you’re looking for a combination of art and cinema, then FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) is the place to be – it’s just off of Bold Street, and has plenty of free exhibitions that won’t damage your student loan on a weekend.

History buffs will be amazed by the jaw dropping architecture of Liverpool Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral – they’re true landmarks of beauty! Almost every Liverpool student has posted a snap of one of these on their Instagram Story, and we can understand why.
Spend an afternoon in the Baltic Triangle
The Baltic Triangle buzzes with energy, showcasing stunning street art, quirky indie cafés, and vibrant music venues that pulse with creativity. With an array of funky pubs to choose from, including the brewery in the Baltic Market, there’s something for everyone’s taste – as well as the huge Red Brick Market, offering up some independent stalls bursting with crafts, clothes and coffee. It’s easy to spend hours down in the Baltic, and it’s not too far away from students living in Smithdown or the Georgian Quarter.
Soak up some of the football culture
For all the football fans out there, the thrill of a stadium tour at Anfield or Goodison Park will be a highlight of your weekend. Picking up a scarf or some memorabilia in Liverpool ONE and heading down to watch a match is something every Liverpool student should try at least once while they’re here.
Grab a bite to eat on Bold Street
It’s popular for a reason – Bold Street may be the holy grail of charity shops and independent boutiques, but it’s got so much to offer in terms of food and drink. You’ll easily find your new favourite spot to eat, and with so many places offering student discount, it really is the place to be when you want to treat yourself to something other than instant noodles for dinner. Plus, with summer right around the corner there are plenty of opportunities to sit out on the street and tuck into a gorgeous meal.
Reconnect with nature in Sefton Park
Calling a brand new city home can be pretty daunting, but when you’re surrounded by some beautiful spots of nature just outside the city, it makes it so much easier. Sefton Park quickly becomes the favourite for most students living in Liverpool, and it’s perfect for anyone living in Greenbank or down Smithdown Road. You can top off your weekend by going for a stroll around the pond, grabbing an ice cream from the cafe right in the middle of the park, and even pop to Lark Lane for a sweet treat and a look around the shops.
Liverpool has so much to offer when it comes to exploring its rich culture, and with iconic spots like the Cavern Club right on your doorstep, it would be rude not to spend a weekend mooching around the city to find your new favourite place.
