Actress playing her mum finally shares who Belly will choose in The Summer I Turned Pretty

‘Laurel thinks that this is a big moment in Belly’s life’

Ever since The Summer I Turned Pretty was announced, people have been asking one major question: Who will Belly choose in the end? And now that we’re finally in the final season, the big answer is getting closer with each episode. Will the series stick to the book’s ending, or will Jenny Han throw us a curveball?

We already know from Jenny herself that the ending of the show won’t be exactly the same as the books. But that hasn’t stopped viewers from diving deep into theories, clues, and hidden easter eggs about what’s coming next.

And after the emotional rollercoaster that was episode four, we’re inching even closer to the reveal. There was an explosive fight between Belly and her mum, Laurel. In fact, Belly even tells Laurel that she’s marrying Jeremiah, whether she likes it or not.

But now, Jackie Chung, who plays Belly’s mom, Laurel, is weighing in on who she thinks Belly should end up with, and her answer is pretty perfect.

So, what did Jackie Chung actually say?

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jackie was asked about Laurel’s thoughts on her daughter’s love life. More so because Susannah, Laurel’s best friend, always believed Belly would end up with one of her sons.

The interviewer asked, “Do you think she (Laurel) wants Belly to end up with Conrad or Jeremiah, or someone entirely different?”

Jackie’s response was thoughtful and completely in character for Laurel. She explained that Laurel sees this moment as a crucial time for Belly. It’s her time to discover “who she is and to just explore all her options.”

According to Jackie, Laurel believes that once Belly gains more experience and truly understands what she wants from a relationship, she’ll be able to make the right choice. She added, “If she comes back to one of them when she really knows who she is and what she wants out of a relationship, if one of those is right, then it’s great.”

She summed it up perfectly by saying Laurel is “fully, fully team Belly,” meaning she supports whatever path Belly takes. It’s less about choosing a side and more about wanting Belly to find happiness on her own terms.
