Molly-Mae dropped a big clue that Tommy’s drinking was causing issues three years ago
It was before they even got engaged
Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury have both opened up about the real reason for their breakup this week, revealing Tommy’s drinking was to blame.
The boxer opened up in an interview with Men’s Health, saying: “Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing.”
“We broke up because I had a problem with alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore. It kills me to say it, but I couldn’t. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink.”
Molly has also addressed his drinking in her new documentary Behind It All, revealing his repetitive alcohol use is what forced her to call it quits.
It came as a huge shock to everyone, but Molly actually dropped a big clue that Tommy’s drinking was causing issues three years ago.
In her book Becoming Molly-Mae which was released in June 2022, she said their biggest arguments were always over Tommy’s drinking and partying.
“The only major arguments Tommy and I have had have been to do with him drinking, which he only does a few times a year,” the influencer wrote.
“He won’t even do anything wrong; I’ll just lose it at him because I hate it. I do have this anxiety around alcohol and the things I’ve seen it do to the people around me.”
“I personally don’t think that alcohol adds anything good to a situation.”

In the documentary, Molly’s mum Debbie also revealed his issues with alcohol had been going on for a long time behind the scenes.

“I’m very very fond of Tommy. He looked after Molly, made her laugh, treated her well and for quite a long time that outweighed the not-so-great stuff that was going on,” she said.
However, she revealed there have been so many occasions over the years that made her “so beyond worried” about Molly.
“Yes she was going to go through the turmoil of a breakup and the heartbreak of a breakup, but moving forward she wouldn’t have endless nights lying there worrying.”
Molly said that her mum had a period of drinking after splitting from her dad after 25 years, which has left her with a negative view of alcohol.
The 25-year-old also claimed that Tommy didn’t have an “alcohol problem” but when he drank, it always caused problems in their relationship.
Tommy revealed his drinking got worse after a hand injury forced him to stop boxing.
He turned to alcohol as a replacement for his training, saying: “I thought, well what can I do? I can sit at a table and have a drink. I can do that. I’ve got one hand for that.”
“I’ve only lived for training and my family, and that was all snatched away from me. So what I did for fun is I started to drink quite a lot. I found that’s what made me feel better.”
“When I didn’t drink, I’d just look at my hand and think, I might never be able to box again.”
In the documentary, Molly revealed she’d beg him to not drink but he’d do it anyway, and it soon started forming cracks in their relationship.
