A GoFundMe has been set up for Perez Hilton’s family and it’s barely getting any donations

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise money for the family of Perez Hilton, and it’s been met with a mixed reception. The fundraiser is aiming to support his children and their grandmother, but it’s struggling to reach its target. 

Perez Hilton is currently receiving residential mental health treatment, after the celeb blogger whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr, posted a video at the start of August in which he could be seen holding a knife and making cuts to himself. He now has extensive physical injuries, has lost a significant amount of blood, and could be hospitalised for months.

Perez Hilton has three children, who are currently in the care of his mother, Teresita Lavandeira. A judge has granted him visitation with his children, but it’s been said Hilton is still not “mentally in a place” where that could reasonably take place without making the situation worse for both him and the three children.

Now, a GoFundMe has been set up by a long-term friend of Perez Hilton. Tom D’Angora set up the page, with support from other friends of Hilton. So far, it has raised a little over $12k of its $25k target. It’s been live for a week.

“Perez is currently receiving full-time residential treatment while he focuses on his mental health and recovery. This process will take time. In the meantime, his mother has stepped in to care for his children full-time and give them the stability and support they need,” the page has explained.

“Like any grandmother who suddenly finds herself responsible for raising three growing children, she’s also taken on significant and unexpected expenses. She’s put much of her own life on hold to make sure the kids can continue going to school, participating in their normal activities, and having as much consistency as possible during an incredibly difficult time.

“Perez’s family and friends are helping however we can. We also wanted to give the many people who have asked how they can help a way to do so. All funds raised will benefit Perez’s mother and children only and help cover the additional costs of caring for three kids full-time. None of the money will be used for Perez personally.”

The GoFundMe hasn’t been met well, with many assuming that Perez is currently selling a huge mansion, so must be wealthy. “This is something else. I’m struggling as a single mom trying to keep my utilities on and my kids fed,” one person commented. “But a celebrity’s family is asking for money.” 

People have also noted that the amount being donated isn’t going well. “Just $12k so far. I’m stunned,” a Reddit post said. “Usually in the first few days it will have reached its goal.” In the replies, another user called it “obnoxious” that someone as “privileged” as Perez Hilton would have a fundraiser set up in his name.
