The hottest publication in town is recruiting and we want you! Come along to our open meeting at 5pm on Tuesday 6th October in Joe’s Bar to find out more.

Who are we looking for?

News writers: To work on daily coverage, as well as breaking news and exclusives.

Features writers: To work on pieces related to student life in Birmingham and around the city.

Social media content creators: To create, post and edit social media content across all of our platforms.

The Birmingham Tab is open to new and returning students, at any university in the city (including UoB, Aston and BCU).

What is The Birmingham Tab?

The Birmingham Tab is the largest network of student publications in the UK, with over 20 student-led teams at universities across the UK.

It’s run by students, for students. We focus on stories affecting students as well as what’s happening both on campuses and across the city. As well as news, we also produce fun (and often silly) features articles and videos across our social media platforms.

With a combined readership of over nine million a month, joining The Tab is a no-brainer for those looking to boost their CVs and build a portfolio. Alumni for The Tab have gone on to write and produce content for leading national and international publications, including Vogue, BBC, the Guardian, and The Times.

Even for those who don’t want to become journalists, joining The Tab has loads of transferable skills that would compliment any CV.

Do you need previous experience? 

Definitely not. For many of our team, The Birmingham Tab was their first dabble with journalism and it’s a great starting point to develop your writing skills. We are also looking for social media contributors to help us produce videos for across our platforms – so any budding influencers, this is for you!

What does being part of The Birmingham Tab involve?

First of all, it will be the best decision of your year. On a serious note though, being part of The Birmingham Tab means you will get to build a portfolio of articles and content for a national publication. The ball is really in your court – so you can create as much or as little content as you like, and cover the stories that matter to you! 

You’ll also get some incredible media training and experience, including virtual training sessions with The Tab HQ, experience using the popular CMS, WordPress, and consistently writing to a house style guide. The skills you’ll gain from joining us will look really impressive on your CV.

We’ll be hosting weekly meeting at Joe’s Bar, which is a great time to meet new people and share your ideas. Our editors can help support your piece and give you any advice you need to produce your article or video.
