People livid with Squid Game casting choice after actor’s child prostitution past resurfaces
Song Young-Chang was arrested in 2000
Though everyone on Twitter is loving season two of Netflix’s Squid Game, some have shared their frustrations at the casting choices after Song Young-Chang’s association with child prostitution resurfaced online.
Song Young-Chang was a new addition to the season two cast, portraying Player 100 Jeong-dae who has the highest amount of debt out of the 456 contestants. He survived season two, so we will most likely see him in next year’s season three.
Unfortunately, despite the numerous positive stories to come out of the second installation of the Squid Game franchise, the good press has been muddied by the emergence of Young-Chang’s past.
Squid Game’s Song Young-Chang was arrested for child exploitation
Almost twenty-five years ago, when Song Young-Chang was an established actor in the Korean TV and film industry, he was arrested for underage prostitution after he paid a 16-year-old girl $150 to have sex with him twice in the back of a car in Goyang.
He became the first actor in Korea to be arrested for relations with a minor after the girl recognised his face from his solid bank of acting gigs, being sentenced to 10 months in prison and two years of probation for violating the Juvenile Protection Act. According to one report, his good behaviour and remorse for the situation meant he was only behind bars 36 days before being released and moving to Canada.
Though he did return to South Korea later, he is still banned from appearing on national networks such as KBS, EBS, and MBC, for being the only celebrity convicted of child prostitution.

On Twitter, one person wrote: “The fact that Squid Game is a series full of criminal actors but y’all still hype it like nothing happened is just nasty.”
