Georgia Toffolo’s fiancé asks if he should delay wedding for tax break in bizarre LinkedIn post
The BrewDog founder wouldn’t get the tax break if they married before 2027
BrewDog co-founder James Watt visited LinkedIn on Tuesday to question whether he should delay his wedding to Georgia Toffolo for three years so he can get a tax break after investing in her business.
Made in Chelsea’s Georgia found love earlier this year when she went on a blind date with millionaire James Watt. The two hit it off and the whirlwind romance saw the couple vacationing everywhere from Mumbai to the Maldives. They became engaged in October but now it seems like James could be delaying the wedding in a bid to get a chunky tax cut.
James Watt might delay the wedding for three years!
Earlier this week, the controversial business tycoon asked his LinkedIn connections for advice about his upcoming marriage to Georgia. The strange question was sparked after a visit from his tax advisor who told him that because he invested in Georgia’s business Wild Pack, a raw dog food business, he would lose out on EIS tax relief.
EIS, or enterprise investment scheme, offers tax relief to individual investors who buy new shares in your company. But because James would be the business owner’s husband, he would lose out on that tax break unless he waited three years.
Naturally, he wondered if he should choose “tax relief” over “love”, an experience I don’t think is wholly relatable to everyday people.
“Should I delay marrying Georgia Toffolo? I need some help guys,” he questioned. “If I marry Georgia within three years of investing, I become a ‘connected person’ under HMRC rules, and I lose the EIS tax relief.”

He posed his followers with the following options and asked for their advice, “A) Love always wins – take the tax relief hit” or “B) True love can wait for three years – secure the relief.”
It’s worth noting that James has an estimated net worth of £262 million. Surely, he can take the tax hit in the name of love?
Strangely, LinkedIn had some pretty good advice
Of course, LinkedIn is hardly a platform known for its stellar relationship advice, but his business connections actually surprised me with fairly considerate responses.
“As life is sadly all too short, nothing is guaranteed and love always wins over. It is priceless and the one true thing that money cannot buy. I would take three happy years of marriage over tax relief any day,” one person said.
Another wrote: “Throw a party swap rings and know deep down that when all the plates, bottles and glasses are cleared away and you snuggle in each other’s arms the Tax man has ultimately paid for the party. Now that makes me happy!! Congratulations on whatever you decide – There’s no real wrong answer!”
Others poked fun at the Punk mantra of the Brewdog brand, writing: “Has there ever been a more unlikeable guy in the history of beer and/or the internet?”
“Looking to postpone your wedding to enhance your tax break options is definitely a punk thing…” another said.
