‘Your body, our choice’: Millions of women are taking part in ‘deadly’ MATGA movement
Aqua Tofana tattoos might be 2024’s most sought after ink – or a huge red flag
Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any crazier, millions of women are taking part in TikTok’s MATGA movement that sees them mockingly adding Aqua Tofana poison to their men’s drinks after Donald Trump’s shocking win against Kamala Harris in the 2024 Presidential election.
Last week, Moo Deng’s prediction came true as Republican Donald Trump beat the Democrats for another shot at the White House, sending millions of Americans into a spiral. With abortion rights being a major talking point throughout the election, women, in particular, are fearing for their bodily autonomy and ditching their boyfriends as a result.
@beareece98 I’ve been seeing more of these over the past few days and I love it!
The ‘MATGA’ movement is taking off on TikTok
Women have reported an uptick in misogyny following Donald Trump’s victory on November 5, with the phrase “Your body, our choice” becoming an all too familiar presence on our timelines, even in the UK. Of course, the phrase is a mockery of the feminist phrase, “Our body, our choice.”
But women on social media are not backing down, at least not without a fight.
In response to the sexist phrase, women are taking part in the “MATGA” trend, again an obvious play on words from Trump’s own “Make American Great Again” as women seek to “Make Aqua Tofana Great Again” instead.
Aqua Tofana is a poison initially created by Italian women in 1632 as the primary means for killing their husbands. It was made from a mixture of arsenic, lead, and possibly belladonna, and could be easily mixed into drinks or meals. The deadly toxin is most often associated with Giulia Tofana, the daughter of its inventor, who sold the poison to women who were experiencing violence at home.

Giulia was said to have racked up a kill count of over 600 men – she would have been cracking at Call of Duty.
Naturally, modern-day women have picked up the trend once again as they cite “Your body, my choice” as the ultimate comeback. It’s brutal, but it gets the point across.
Aqua Tofana is amassing millions of views
Despite the shockingly violent display, the videos seem to be made in jest as a way to illustrate the hypocrisy and idiotic nature of the right’s newest gotcha phrase. We are yet to see an increase in mysterious poison-related deaths.
Nonetheless, videos on TikTok are garnering millions of views and an equal number of likes. Some women are even getting Aqua Tofana tattoos as a symbol of their resilience against misogyny and a gentle nod to women who might “need an albi” according to one TikTok account.
