She also shared details to a domestic violence hotline after criticism from viewers

After receiving a storm of backlash on the back of It Ends With Us, Blake Lively has finally addressed the topic of domestic abuse in the movie.

Uploading two Stories to Instagram last night, she shared information of domestic violence statistics in the US, as well as a domestic violence hotline and details on how viewers can access help.

In a second Story, she thanked people who watched the movie and those who “WANT to see films about women and the multitudes we hold”.

Both Blake and Justin Baldoni, who stars in the movie as Ryle, received criticism after the promotional tour of It Ends With Us focused largely on the romantic elements of the film, as opposed to the serious undertones of domestic abuse which the film is focused around.

There has been rumoured tensions among the cast following the movie’s release over disagreements in the editing room, with the internet seemingly siding with Justin Baldoni during the feud.

Four days after the film’s release, Blake acknowledged the backlash in a statement to her Instagram Story that read: “Thank you to everyone who came out to show that people WANT to see films about women and the multitudes we hold. It Ends With Us is a story of the female experience. All the highest highs, and lowest lows. And we are so proud of it.”

Captioned around a reshare of an interview clip from the London premiere of It Ends With Us, Blake wrote: “We have been in celebration of this film and of getting a message so important out there to the masses.

“Thank you all for embracing @itendswithusmovie with the same love, pain and joy we had sharing it with you all.”

In a second Instagram Story post, Blake shared domestic violence statistics in the United States, providing viewers with a link to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

She wrote: “One in four women aged 18 and older in the US alone have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

“Intimate partner violence affects all genders, including more than 12 million people every year in the United States. Everyone deserves relationships free from domestic violence.”

Linking to their site, the statement from Blake Lively added: “The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides confidential support 24/7/365. For immediate help, text “START” to 88788.”

Seemingly defending the film’s promotion, Blake told BBC News on Friday: “This move covers domestic violence but what’s important about this film is that she is not just a survivor and she’s not just a victim.
“And while those are huge things to be, they’re not her identity.”
