Love it or hate it, The Office US is one of those series which will just never die. Teenagers will be binge watching it in 10, 15 and even 20 years to come and rightly so – it’s a cult classic. No matter how many times we rewatch it, it still provides all the comfort and humour as if it were the first time watching. That being said, there are still loads of things you might have missed, regardless of how many times you’ve seen the show.

Whether you were distracted by Michael Scott’s dad jokes or too busy trying to work out who started the fire, here’s a rundown of all the editing errors in The Office US.

Phyliss vanishes into thin air during the jelly incident

In the very first episode of the show, most of us were distracted watching the stapler-in-jelly fiasco between Jim and Dwight. During this scene, Phyliss’ seat is initially empty but in one take, she appears and is turning around mid-shot. Then, miraculously, she vanishes again when the next shot shows.

The magic buzzer in Taboo

When Dwight and Erin are playing Taboo in season eight, episode 15, Dwight can be seen holding a buzzer so that the speaker is face down. But after Jim slaps him, the next shot shows the speaker turned over and upside down. It must have been some hard slap, or more likely, a missed detail in filming.

In true Angela fashion, she loved telling everyone how much better she was because of her aversion to eating meat. Vegetarianism ties in perfect with her insufferable character, and the fact that she’s an insanely crazy cat lover. But in season eight, episode 13, Angela slips up and tells Oscar that her son was conceived because of “too much wine in [her] chicken piccata”.

Michael’s office is suddenly empty

Another editing error in The office US came in the very first episode, when Jan and Michael have a heated argument in his office about downsizing the Scranton branch. Michael enlists Pam for backup and the three of them gather in his office, where we can see them near the glass wall.

However, in the next shot of Jim and Dwight, the office is empty.

Dwight’s shirt is water repellent

The Fire episode in season two, episode four is one of the best episodes of the show hands down. But it’s clear that the chaos of the episode got to both the characters and production team, as there’s not one but two editing errors spotted in this episode.

Whilst everyone slowly evacuates the building due to the fire, Dwight loses it and throws a jug of water into a room full of thick smoke, getting himself wet in the process. But after Dwight heroically rescues Kelly by dragging her out kicking and screaming, his shirt is completely dry.

Michael’s scarf moved position on its own

With questionable fashion sense at the best of times, it would be easy to disregard this one as a character trait. But at six minutes into the 12th episode of season five, Michael can be seen speaking with Dwight and Jim in his office. He’s just about to leave with his scarf above his collar, but the next shot shows the scarf actually under his collar instead.

Stanley is a menace on the basketball court

Look, I don’t doubt that Stanley is a killer basketball player, but the speed at which he appears to move at in the basketball scene in season one is just insane. Initially behind Pam when she throws the jump ball, Stanley somehow spawns at the other end of the court just a split second later. He’s good, but he’s not that good.

Kevin purposefully drops his ice cream

Kevin is definitely a ditz, but in season nine, episode six he really drops the ball – or his ice cream. Overhearing Oscar reveal to the camera crew that he’s having an affair with the senator, Kevin pops out from behind some crates. In hearing the shock confession, he drops his ice cream from the cone, but the actor can actually be seen pushing it off with his thumb.

Filmed in LA, directors obviously tried hard to ensure the series looked and seemed to be set in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This is often pulled off, apart from a few shots here and there that are obviously not set in the northeast of the USA. One notable example of this is when Michael pulls up

Michael doesn’t have a brother

Again, one of the more noticeable editing errors in The Office US cropped up in the very first episode when Michael refers to his brother. He jokes that he has a special safekeeping for Jan’s messages – the bin. Elaborating that he learned that joke from his “brother”, who has the same method for filing his taxes. The issue comes later, when Michael’s brother is never mentioned again. Instead, it’s later revealed that he only has a half sister, whose name is Marnie Cooper.

Jim signs Meredith’s cast as ‘John Krasinski’

We all remember when Michael hit Meredith with his car – how could we forget? During the whole kerfuffle of it all, most viewers won’t have noticed that when Jim signed Meredith’s cast, he didn’t write “Jim” or even “James Halpert”. John actually wrote his own name rather than his character’s and eagle eyed viewers will see the big “K” for Krasinski. Regardless, it has to be one of the funnuest editing errors in The Office US.
