The Sussex Tab is now recruiting for our 23/24 editorial team. The Sussex Tab breaks the biggest news stories on campus and covers anything that Sussex students need and care to know about.
The available positions are: Editor-in-Chief, News Editor, Features Editor, and Social Media Manager.
Applications from all students are welcome, no matter what degree you’re studying or what year you’re in. You just need to be passionate and have an interest student journalism.
As the positions are editorial, some journalism or writing experience is of use. If you’ve written for a blog or any other publication before and are looking for more experience or responsibility then we encourage you to apply.Our experienced editors will be carrying our training with you to help you settle into your new roles before the new academic year begins.
The deadline for applications is 23:59 Sunday 16th April
Editor-In-Chief
As Editor-In-Chief you’ll be in charge of overseeing the everyday running of The Sussex Tab. You’ll be overseeing your team of writers, editing articles and lead the direction of our coverage. You should be prepared to write your own pieces throughout the year and help the team in breaking the biggest stories on campus.
Most Read
A good Editor-In-Chief should be outgoing and supportive to new and existing writers. As well as, thorough in editing articles and have a keen eye for any breaking stories that Sussex students need to hear about.
News Editor
As News editor you’ll be responsible for getting the scoop on any breaking news stories on campus and around Brighton. This role often involves needing to react to fast-paced and changing stories as they develop on the day. You need to be able to sniff out a good story when you see one.
You’ll be working on stories just like these:
Sussex Renter’s Union has occupied Jubilee Building on campus
Sussex students taken to court because they didn’t sort out their council tax exemption on time
Sussex University has dropped at least 50 places in The Times Higher Education World Rankings
Features Editor
As Features Editor you’ll be in charge of writing and editing the fun and witty features pieces. You’ll be able to cover every aspect of student life, including all things nightlife, fashion and food. There’s a lot of room to be creative in this role and we want someone who is witty, opinionated and knows what’s relevant to students.

A conclusive guide to the best study spots in Brighton
Social Editor
As Social Media Editor you’ll have creative control over our Instagram and Facebook page. The role requires having an eye for all the latest trends, memes and online content. You will also work on growing our TikTok following and developing our video journalism.
The Sussex Tab relies on social media in order to promote our latest articles and create an impact. This job is suited to someone who loves the ins and outs of social media and wants to gain some real experience (which looks great on your CV).
