Zara’s family responds to claims she is being bullied on Love Island 2023

Her brother said ‘she can handle the drama’

Love Island 2023’s Zara’s family has spoken out on her behalf after viewers began to complain she was being bullied and treated unfairly on the show.

During a game of truth or dare, Tom was asked to form his perfect girlfriend and he made the decision to choose Olivia’s face, Zara’s body and Lana’s personality. Zara was upset by Tom’s comments and said: “I’m not just a booty”.

Love Island viewers were outraged by Zara’s treatment and said she was being treated unfairly by Tom and other Islanders. Zara’s family have since responded to the bullying claims.

Zara’s brother, Alex, said: “She is a very strong woman who knows her own mind – she can handle the drama.”

Zara’s mother, Denise, added: “We understand people’s concerns when they see she is visibly upset. We know the show is highly edited and that Zara is free to leave at any time. Zara went into the villa with her eyes wide open, and warned us that we’ll be seeing 24 hours condensed into 50 minutes each night.”

One Love Island viewer expressed their concern and said: “So they’re just going to gaslight and bully Zara out the villa? This episode was nasty.”

Former Dinnerladies actress, Shobna Gulati, went one step further and told her fans that she has complained to Ofcom following the episode. In a tweet, she said: “I’ve actually complained to Ofcom today. It was a very uncomfortable watch.”
