The rumour started churning early thanks to Tyler’s flirtatious moments on Selling The OC, plus a few steamy scenes between him and co-stars.
When Brittany Snow later hinted at infidelity on Call Her Daddy, people connected dots on social media, and Alex’s onscreen closeness to Tyler made her an obvious target.
Add to that a couple of castmate confessions and “hot tub” gossip that circulated after season two, and suddenly the narrative felt airtight for many outsiders.
Reality TV loves a neat storyline, and people were quick to build one.
Here’s why she thinks people are convinced
Appearing on Trading Secrets with Jason Tartick, Alex explained that the reasons aren’t as juicy as people assume.
Tyler reportedly told cast members early on that he and Brittany were separating, which meant there were overlapping timelines that people misread.
Alex has repeatedly denied being “the other woman,” and she’s said she thinks the issue is poor boundary-setting and timing, not a secret affair, per People.
During Selling The OC season four, Alex told Tyler: “I just don’t want to get blamed as being the other woman because your ex-wife thinks it was me and it wasn’t me, it was somebody else.”
She explained where she thinks the rumours also stemmed from speaking to Jason on Trading Secrets.
“I posted a photo, and I think Tyler’s foot was in my photo. And people dissected one of his little tattoos and figured out that it was him, and I was like, ‘why do you care so much?’ and my date was already uncomfortable because he knew that there were rumours. So, he ended up leaving [Dubai].”
Jason chimed in: “You made a statement. Essentially, you’re saying ‘I wanna clarify and set the record straight on allegations towards me… I’ve never been unfaithful in a relationship, nor have I ever been the counterpart to someone who’s been unfaithful.
“Brittany may have made claims she knew that he was unfaithful, but you’re not at all involved in any type of unfaithful behaviour between you and Tyler when he was married. Is that correct?”
“You would be correct,” replied Alex.
Both Alex and Tyler have pushed back on claims of an affair, while Brittany has reflected publicly on trust and boundaries without naming names.
