Right, so why exactly is chronic Lyme disease such a controversial topic?
Bella Hadid is currently hospitalised because of it
Bella Hadid is currently in hospital suffering with the symptoms of her chronic Lyme disease, however the topic as a whole is incredibly controversial.
Bella received her diagnoses when she was 16, however she revealed that her symptoms appeared two years earlier including headaches, insomnia, joint pain and weight loss amongst others.
She recalled: “Every day I feel at least 10 of these attributes without fail. Since I was probably 14, but more aggressively when I turned 18.”

Whilst Lyme’s disease isn’t known to be genetic, both Yolanda Hadid and Bella’s younger brother also have Lyme disease, which led to speculation about whether their symptoms were really being caused by the condition.
The topic was a major point of discussion on Real Housewives, where Lisa Rinna suggested that Yolanda might have Munchausen, however she’s since explained she does think she has Lyme disease.
But let’s get back to the basics of what it actually is. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection that humans can get if they’re bitten by an infected tick.
Early symptoms can include tiredness and muscle aches, however if not treated symptoms including joint pain and mental confusion can develop.

However, a more recent form of chronic Lyme disease has been under fire, as it’s a condition that isn’t accepted as being real by a lot of doctors.
Most doctors say that for most people who get the disease it can be treated completely with antibiotics, with one microbiologist claiming that “there is no consensus over whether chronic Lyme actually exists.”
Some believe that the term “chronic Lyme disease” is used to cover a variety of general symptoms that might not be caused by the infection itself, whilst others believe that it’s a debilitating illness that isn’t treated or understood properly.
Yolanda Hadid has previously spoken out about trying more holistic methods to try and treat Bella, with her doing a 100 day natural treatment plan to try and fight the effects of Lyme disease.
The treatment worked for a while, with Bella writing: “Almost 15 years of invisible suffering, was all worth it if I’m able to, God willing, have a lifetime of spreading love from a full cup, and being able to truly be myself, For the first time ever.”

However, she recently had another severe flareup that’s required hospitalisation, with Yolanda writing: “As you will understand watching my Bella struggle in silence, has cut the deepest core of hopelessness inside me.
“The invisible disability of chronic neurological Lyme disease is hard to explain or understand for anyone.
“I try to lead by example on our Lyme journey but my own pain cannot compare to watching my baby suffer.
“After many years I stopped sharing my personal story because I needed an energetic shift, time to focus on my healing rather than absorb other people’s opinions about my journey.
“Even so, I am the CEO of my health and after fifteen years of searching the globe, I am still determined to find a cure affordable for all.
“Hopefully soon I will share whatever we have learned and the places we have been with you and our Lyme community as soon as lab results reflect our victory.”
